I'm getting up there in mileage in hot Texas...I'm considering changing the MAF and buying a new OEM one. My truck idled kind of weird while in bumper-bumper (it was 105F+) for almost 2 hours...would kind of like to swap it just to be sure. No dash lights...

Has anyone done this and how easy/hard is it to do? It looks like a plug and play...just curious.

Yeah two screws and a connector. Just don't force anything. You could also consider just getting MAF cleaner and spray it down once removed if you haven't already bought a new one. How much is the new one $$$?

OEM is about $100.

Your call. If no check engine light it may make sense to just remove, clean, and replace.

While your in there check your air filter, hold it up to the sun if you can't see light through it your overdue. If you're feeling really froggy you could also remove the plastic tube going to the throttle body and spray some throttle body cleaner on the butterfly plate if it's in need.

Remember to not use throttle body cleaner on MAF. Only use specific electric/maf cleaner.

>> Describe the weird idle. Hot days, old truck, AC going, and idle may not be perfect. Was it surging up and down or doing anything erratic or are you just hoping for that buttery smooth idle?

Idle issue in that ambient temperature would lead me to fuel vapor issues, such as the charcoal canister. My black 100 series in Texas suffered this regularly in the summer.

I'd use some $15 MAF cleaner before paying for a new unit but that's me, couldn't hurt.
