New LX550 and Retro LC called X runner

that's odd since the street-sport version of the Taco is already called "X-Runner"... probably just a temporary designation?

I hope the LX550 sells tons and is immensely popular with many 100 owners trading in and flooding the used market with low mileage, grocery-run 100's :) which, of course will be good for me! hehe

Very interesting to say the least. But hard to fathom why Toyota would walk away from the brand equity Land Cruiser nameplate. Granted, the differentiation b/w the three current models is not substantial in the eyes of the typical consumer, but if this does come to fruition, it will be a dark day for LC enthusiasts. It would be cool to see a true retro LC (like the old FJs), but not that thing above. Looks like another RAV 4 cutesie vehicle.

i dont think toyota will stop the land cruiser the us may just get a few but in the other parts of the world it will stay; i think the us is the only market were it has to "re-invent" or change some how to stay popular.

I don't undertand the Xrunner thing either, as there is already an Xrunner which is the '05 Tacoma "sport truck".

If that designation is correct than it looks like the next LC/LX will be a 5.5L V8 eh?

I suspect the "xrunner" will have a Land Cruiser designation. I also suspect the final design will be much tamer.

And why not drop the Sequoia nameplate in favor of the Land Cruiser one? It would seem to have more marketing appeal. But then again, can you imagine a non 4x4 Landcruiser. Barf.

Doesn't it say an all new Sequoia/LX550? That means it will be presented as an all new vehicle or atleast a major change (frame, engine, suspension, sheetmetal, etc.) So at this point we don't know what it will look like or how good offroad it might be. I would suspect it will be more of a luxury on road SUV that will handle the local pasture and logging road. The new LC will be the Off road vehicle that will be OK but rougher on road, more of the FJ40 back to the roots vehicle, isn't that what you guys want? That way the rich guy buys both :) Toyota wins with the sale of 2 vehicles instead of one.

thats what I would expect also........hmmm :)

fj cruiser this fall

I just found this info on the Autoweek site:

"Toyota FJ to USA

After two years of study, Toyota will bring the FJ Cruiser to America this year. The production version of the rugged two-door SUV will be unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show, a Toyota source said. The source said it will look "very close" to the concept FJ Cruiser that debuted at the 2003 Detroit auto show. It also will carry significant cues of the original circa-1960 FJ-40 Land Cruiser, down to the identical logo. It will be imported from Japan and go on sale this fall."

Sounds interesting. I'm glad to hear it is going to be coming over from Japan. When is the Chicago show?

Answered my own question. Press preview for Chicago show is on emonth from today -we don't have to wait long.

I got an idea, why don't we start a collection to buy me one when they first come out and I will post messages letting you guys know how much I like it???

I hope it doesn't look too much like the concept truck. Thats an ugly beast, of course I thought that about the H2 and they are selling them like crazy.

Let's not get too down on this FJ until we see the final sheetmetal... The underpinnings promise to be very solid, based upon the new Tacoma drivetrain, etc.

Let's see if I've got it right. 4.0 v6 255hp 275 ft.lbs., 5spd auto or 6 spd manual, Solid rear with toyota e-locker. IFS, well, it's improved over the older Tacoma which was ok... Plus, there is already aftermarket support for 3" suspension lift on this new IFS...

Besides, the IFS can always get torched off:)

Now things get weird. The new Tacoma is based on the 4th Generation 4runner/GX470, except it doesn't offer the 4.7 V8 that we all love. I hope they will offer the V8 in the new LC/FJ Xrunner. Will the new LC be a 4runner with different sheet metal and some lockers???

Pretty sure its coming out of Mexico not Japan.
