Now that I have an LX in awesome shape, and tires that will be here on the 30th, what lift do you guys suggest? I was thinking a simple 2.5" ome. But you guys are experts so any input is appreciated...

Can't wait for uwharrie

OME 2.5" heavy heavy or heavy(f)/Medium(r) would be my suggestion
do you plan on full armor? how soon? are you ok with redoing suspension later or sacrificing ride for now until its all armored up?

i say that because castor correction is easy and proven, parts are minimal, and its proven.
you can run 35's if you wish on this and if you wanted more a simple 1'' BL would allow that.

although if I were pulling trigger tomorrow Id look hard at TJM 4'' progressive
but it will make your 305's look puny ..l..

6" Slee lift man. You've already got lockers, go for the lift.

Sliders, skids and rear bumper after the lift, shortly after.

just remember don't ask a 60 guy how to lift an 80 :D

ok all kidding aside, why would you go 6'' when you can fit 37's easily on 4''
Ryan, you need to map out your end goals and what you want the truck to do for you.
Or if you already know, share a little more info to help us help you

look at fourtraxx......... 35's on a simple 2.5'' lift + 1'' bl
now if you have lots of money falling out of your pockets, the slee kit is complete and nice
(but id still be getting the 4'')

besides a taller lift isn't gonna keep the axles outta harms way if you were to say maybe get stuck in a puddle and leave it over night lol

look at fj40z trucks... both his 80s had the heavy heavy combo and look great
33's on the first didn't look small and the 35's on the second one don't look too big or rub

granted if you were to add a roof rack, a winch, a drawer, rear bar and swing outs it could start to get a lil low for clearing bigger rubber at full lock or stuff but then a 150 body lift solves that and gives you a lil heat control off that cat

In all seriousness, I agree with Jason. Map out what you intend to use the truck for and build it for that.

When I got Moonshine, the first 'mod' was a storage and sleeping system to help use the truck for camping. I still have that same storage and sleeping system and use it all the time. Its one of my favorite and most useful mods.

Once you've figured out how you are gonna use the truck, invest in mods that you will use.

i wouldn't do any more lift then you have to have, keep the center of gravity as close to earth as you can.

Everyone knows what my answer is going to be but where I grew up it was go big or go home.
But what Jason said is very true plan what you want it for. If it is going to be a dd and you care about mpg don't do a 6 inch lift as the tires you will need to make it look good will suck that up. There is nothing in uwharrie a 4" lift on 37s won't do with the right gear and driver. Where i lived when i bought the 80 that wasnt the case but here it is. That said if you do a 6" you don't really need a case skid with it. Back before my 80 was always in the middle of projects and I could afford to drive it I took it everywhere and never hit anything.
Jon is right though I've seen how you wheel and if you do anything less than a 6" you need a skid and sliders minimum.

ha if its gonna be a dd and care about mpg you need to sell it :D

but seriously i don't feel the 2'' extra lift will get you any further
id venture to say half the folks with 6'' lifts run 35's......which fit fine on a 2.5'' or J lift
so regardless of lift the tire size is gonna be the biggest impact to mpg..... next would be weight and of course a proper tune

AL I hear you but seriously where you lived might not have all be conquerable on 4'' and 37's but same rig same trail and i don't see a 6'' and 37's getting you much if any further and with the same up travel you can't really fit a bigger tire without some other adjustments. Sure you had trails beyond the capability of a 4'' 80 but I don't think those same trails weren't all of a sudden doable cause 2'' extra height thought granted your armor make look a lot better at trails end. now a bobbed caged mini or some hacked up 80 buggy sure but apples to oranges plus we all know the real source of go big or go home ;) and half the big stuff out there is just that.... big but not necessarily better.

now as for a t case skid....... ask stephan again :)
don't need one till you need it and again 2'' more doesn't put you in the untouchable zone
I've wheeled with plenty of 80s on 6'' coils turtled up on some rock.....ask ncsu drew :)

no arguments, just food for thought......if you didn't digest enough yesterday (gobble gobble)

No argument about out here but if you run rocky trails 2" of lift can make all the difference between getting hung up and not. Of course the best way to do that is bigger tires with hacked fenders but my rig was a dd for about 3 years on a 6" lift and 36/37s.

Apples to apples a 80 with a 6" vs a 4" with the same tires and same experienced driver will have the 6" lifted one go place the 4" one won't. Am I saying it is neccisarry? No. In NC even less so. I wouldn't advocate anyone going as big as my rig if if wasn't just a personal preference.
In reality in NC a mildly built rig like joes or Eric's will go just about everywhere a rig with 37s and a 4" lift will go.

And most likely a 4" lifted 80 with 37's will go most places a 6" lifted with 37's will go but one will do it easier with less chance of underbelly damage

And yes most if the jacked up trucks back home are for show and making sure you don't get stuck in the sand at glamis or in the desert towing a 5th wheel toy hauler. So they do work for what they were designed for.

Me if u had a stick 80 I'd keep it daily low and stock right now... Mainly because if I beat it up as much as I did back home the wifey would want me to get rid of it.... I'm not up for replacing everybody panel again. So my truck doesn't get used for what it was designed for. Mainly it is my camping vehicle and off roader.... Now if I get another camping vehicle and tow rig that may change again and ill start taking it to the hard trails in Harlan. Right now I can't afford to gas it up let alone fix body panels or breakages.

Oh yeah and do you want my spare gas tank??

When I get off work I'll respond a lot more in depth but until then I'll i'll just laugh at these "I know how you wheel", and "if you leave it in a puddle overnight" comments.

You got to post a picture of this thing to have before and after. I will go with 4"

How fast you want / need a lift ?

ASAP.

Sounds like you may have some parts laying around to bring to URE for me!:D:D

In the long run I plan on full armor, rear tire carrier, and possibly winch. I do like to wheel hard sometimes but I actually care about the LX so I plan to be careful... The 2.5 OME sounds ideal for me considering the slee 4" is pushing $3000...
I appreciate everyones input. I'm going to re-read all this and respond accordingly.
Thanks!

and change your sigline when you post that pic :)

plus look at the J lift to get a little more than 2.5 if you like; best to go with a combo to avoid the stinkug if your not a fan or not loaded often. 4'' front spring , J rear or J front spring , heavy rear

i can get a pic of those side by side if you want... both curently on 35s

Do it once and do it right, go straight for the soa. Never look back.

EDIT: These don't have leaf springs, do they?
