Just got my first LC home and set about cleaning and checking her over - I'm curious about the numbers on the metal tag on the firewall in the engine bay. I think I know what most of them mean, but if you guys have any comments, I'd like to hear them. Like, what's the FJ10 trim? And what info does the K294 axle number give? What's the A11 plant?

Model: FZJ80L-GCPEKV
Engine: 1FZ-FE 4477cc
Frame: FZJ80-0065482
Color: 6MI
Trim: FJ10
Trans/Axle: A442F K294
Plant/Built: A11

I've had the interior stripped to give it a good clean (smelled like the PO transported goats in it!) and I had the engine cleaned, bvut from here on I want to do any wok myself. Haynes mnual on the way

It's a 1994 VX, 205 000 km!, fully automatic, diff locks, sun roof, Gulf specs, tow package, dual A/C, dual tanks, winch is missing but once was fitted stock, and pretty much in tip-top shape. Cost me USD 8000.

Oh, and already named: Elsie!

Is it OK if I link to some pics?

You'll prolly also want to invest in a factory service manual. Although i like the pics in the haynes better.

stock dual tanks? stock winch? how come i didn't get that memo? They need to make that US spec too.

Yeah, the specs are awesome, given that the buyers in this part of the world in 1994 prolly had plenty to spend.

Here she is stripped:

And here's the engine:

No EGR!

An interesting vehicle. Would you mind posting a photo of the subtank switch?

Sure bud, I'll take it tomorrow as it's night here now.

Here's two more shots of the engine as you seem interested. There's tonnes of these 80s out here; many of them a bit run down.

I'm right on the edge of the desert, so the local boyz tend to play a bit too hard with their cars and not not do much maintenance. At least there's no rust to worry about!!!! :D

Emissions stuff is not on anybody's mind...

Interesting engine components. In addition I see no cruise control and I do not see the kick-down cable for the transmission.

OK, here's the dual tank deal: the gas filler has a knob that when pulled out about 2" fills the sub-tank; the electric switch is on the center dash controls just to the left of the cig lighter and it is marked "SUB"; the gauge is up on the roof console, by the compass and sun-roof controls.

Thanks.

I was primarily interested in the switch on the dash because I kinda remember a round-top upper switch from an earlier dash like yours. I have the same switch you have. The one I saw may have been a diesel.

"Auto" climate control on a 1994. OEM hand throttle. Clock has an alarm and what appears to be a stop watch. Evap system w/charcoal canister but I don't see the ABS system.

What is the H4 switch on the top row?

And what info does the K294 axle number give?

In the US market there were 2 axle options; K292 and K294. Both were 4.10:1 ratio. The K294 denotes a vehicle equipped with the electronically locking front and rear differentials.

Thanks Beowulf - good to know the diff gear ratio. I'll check on ABS. The H4 button engages 4WD HI, and the regular hand lever down by the gear lever is used for LO.

I do wish it had cruise control, perhaps I can add it later. Right now I'm done with the general cleaning, and as soon as my Haynes gets here I'll start a good overhaul. The truck sure is built well, and the info on this forum FAQ is awesome!!! I think I've found a new online home - it's so boring here...

Here's a few more general pics:

You forgot to mention the winch, the cool box, the barn doors, The swing-out tyre carrier and a few other things....;)

OK first, Great truck and welcome!!!

You have been very helpful in posting a few pictures as it helps to clear up some discussions that have been ongoing.

If it isn't too much trouble, could you get the number off of your Engine computer? It should be located above and behind the glove box. If you remove the glove box door, you should easily see it. That info would put to rest any issues about the computer being different on non EGR 80's vs. US spec 80's.

I'm sure that you will be asked a lot of questions about different things and I'll thank you in advance for your help. Your truck is most like ours in as much as it is petrol 4.5 1FZ-FE / automatic trans/ unknown transfer case. Most of the non US members here seem to have diesels/ manual trans or drive on the wrong side of the vehicle.

You could make a killing here by buying and selling parts to us here in the US. Personally, I love those jump seats.

Refrigerator, Ice maker, hood ornament, Green H4 button instead of CDL, Throttle Lock, ECT???, Pintle mount straight hitch, longitudinal jump seats... Is that rear air in there too?

What is this?

I'm guessing it is some sort of pressure differential sensor to turn on some neat non US indicator lamp if your air filter is getting clogged.

Um, We all have ECT switches............

Dave

Your switch for transmission control may be different because it is a 96.

Yes, rear air also.

Hmmmm. Can you post a picture of the tranny and transfer shifters?
