I think the jumps seats are nice too. Looks like they provide more storage room when folded out of the way, but if you need to have a few more seats, they will do just as well as the 3rd row ones we have.

I also just noticed it looks like an over head light in the very back, shifted towards the DS.

Them jumpers are not OEM. Mr T does not leave brackets and mounting points exposed in that manner.

Actually, yeah they are from the factory. Apparently they are for carrying "workers", like your family maid and butler and whatnot. No seat belts, either!

Four adults fit on there, so that makes the truck a 9-seater, but it wouldn't be very comfortable for long squatting on those benches.

I looked at around a dozen 80s before making my choice, and most had the jumpseats. Some newer models (96-97) had forward-facing foldable seats, which I would have prefered.

Another thing I noticed was that pre-1993 models only had lap belts in the 2nd row rear seats.

Besides the exposed metal bolts for the brackets, there also is not a good restraining system for when they are folded up. I suppose you use a ratchet strap. So I too felt Toyota was a bit rushed and could have done better.

I'm probably going to remove them altogether, since nobody wants to sit there, not even the kids. Plus I need the space for my dog. And I don't have any man-servants to truck around! :flipoff2:

gbell210, there is a cargo light, back by the rear doors, but what you noticed there is the rear A/C - almost a necessity for this part of the world in summer!

With the jump seats in place and the 2nd row laid down is it a somewhat level surface? I.e. could you sleep on it in a pinch?

In the US market there were 2 axle options; K292 and K294. Both were 4.10:1 ratio. The K294 denotes a vehicle equipped with the electronically locking front and rear differentials.

My converted 90 HDJ81 shows the same
Trans/Axle codes: A442F K294. But I don't have the Front/Rear locker switch on the dashboard - just the CDL. Does this mean that my rig came with factory lockers since I have a K294 axle?

And I just need to add this switch from http://www.sleeoffroad.com/technical/tz_locker.htm to enable the lockers?

Podiev,
The easiest thing for you to do is to look on the front and rear axles and see if there is an electric motor that will drive the locking mechanism. If those are there then yes, you've got a good chance that a switch is all you need. If those electric motors are not there then you have NO chance that a switch will work.

Here in the US we are now seeing a lot of K292 vehicles with retrofitted F&R locked axles and we are seeing a few vehicles with the locks disabled (unknown reasons) and we have seen a couple where the PO installed a Diff-Lock switch but that is all, and we are seeing K294 vehicles that have the original axles swapped with the non-locking K292 axles.

Basically, there are no "givens" with regard to the factory equipment on our trucks. The newest are 10 years old and have been through 2 or more owners by now and the oldest are 16 years old and have gone through 4 or 5 owners.

Thanks Beowulf for the quick reply. Do you (or any mudder) have pics of what this electric motor/locking mechanism look like? Am new to LC/4x4 world and I never been under the rig. All the PM work is done by my mechanic friend. I'll go under the rig with my friend this weekend to check.

thanks to the forum for this interesting piece of info on K294. gives me some hope that I might have gotten a rig with factory lockers. When I saw this link http://www.sleeoffroad.com/technical/tz_locker.htm about lockers and since I don't have this switch on my dash, I just took it for granted that I don't have lockers.

This is what the motor on the rear diff will look like. The front is similar.

What is this?

I'm guessing it is some sort of pressure differential sensor to turn on some neat non US indicator lamp if your air filter is getting clogged.

Dave

Its the clogged airfilter sensor and activates a orange filter light, most Australian models have it inc both my 73 and 75 series.
When the filters blocked it raises the vacumm and activates a switch

Does anyone have the original pictures from this thread? I would love to see these parts you guys were gushing over.

That site was re-worked and those links=fail now.

Brett,
Unfortunately, when a Mud member posts links using [ img ] tags and later moves them or loses the hosting site, the images are lost. It is a bummer but it has happened to me and many others. In my case, the "lifetime" fee that I paid for the hosting site just meant as long as they chose to stay in business and that was only 3 years. No warning, just gone.

I believe attachments will stay even if a member loses his silver star or the member goes away.

The real sad part on this one is that they were REAL cool pictures.

Just another thought, but you might want to look into cleaning your AC/vent system - I think it is the evaporator that gets fungus but do a search and you'll find everything you need to know.

Given the age of the truck, probably worth doing regardless, but if the window was open a while and any moisture got into the vent system it seems it could lead to mold/fungus growth even faster.

Good luck, and welcome to mud :flipoff2:
