What's up. Name is Jason Rose, live in Hoover. Probably close to the biggest Toyota nerd you'll find. Had a bunch of 1st gen 4runners, a 3rd gen 4runner, and currently drive this sweet dreamsicle. A 1983 Celica GT with 415,000 miles on it...

Also had this cream puff 77 Celica, but sold it because I need to focus on my FJ. I hate it though as I LOVED this car, and it was in such good shape.

Anyway, enough about my turd fleet....

I'm a Firefighter/Paramedic in Hoover and Forestdale. Lived here since '98, 2 kids and a wife.

I used to be a lot more into wheeling than I am these days, can't even remember the last time I went off road in a rig. I used to have a shop and did some custom fab stuff. Actually enjoyed building rigs more than wheeling them, but that's all in the past. I've sold most of my speciality tools, but still have access to them for personal stuff. Might actually build a few things in the near future, who knows...

This was my last serious rig. '87 4runner with RamJet,TH350, 1 tons, etc...

This was my first rig, and wheeled it for MANY years. All and all, I have the most fond memories in this one, and wish I had never sold it... By far the most enjoyable rig I have ever owned. If I could buy it back, I would. In a heartbeat...

Anyways, looking to get back into a little off roading, cruiser scene fun. I am mostly hooked on the ADV moto thing these days, but I'm finding I really miss my Cruiser, and am on a mission to get it back in the dirt.

Figured I post a lot of pics, since my ADD seems to enjoy those threads most.

Will do. I actually kinda miss the off road scene. I thought I was completely done with it, but buying this 80 has re-sparked it. My oldest daughter would absolutely love doing a little wheeling...

Where/when is meetings usually held?
 
Latest project is locking the 80. Found a sweet deal on a set of E-locked take outs with harnesses, ecu, switch and all. They're being delivered next week. I plan on taking them to work and tearing them down and refurbing them. I'd like to sand blast the housings while they're apart if anyone has a blaster I can use. I have a few bags of Dupont sand left over from my shop days, but my sandblaster has s*** the bed....
 
Obviously you weld and bend tube which are good skills which are valuable for trade or good will....

I USED to weld and bend tube... HA

I still have my welder and notcher, sold my bender...

I usually have a pretty good tool box of skills for trading. I might be down, but I ain't completely out...

My biggest issue being that I don't have a garage at my current home. That one thing alone has really screwed me all up. It has all my tools scattered about, stored at a friend's place that isnt close.

Couple that with I work 120 hours a week and well, you see....

It gets tough.

I really need a garage...

I'm in Hoover too, so if you ever are wrenching wherever, holler at me! I love tearing into axles! and have every pertinent 80-series tool in a pelican case that is easily scatter-able!

That's the biggest thing I miss about off roading. I sucked as a business owner when I had my shop, but always enjoyed helping people out.

That's what I miss the most, hanging out in the shop, wrenching with friends.

I need to get some money up for F/R rebuild kits.

Is anything on the 80 different than the 40/60/mini truck axle? Speciality tool wise?

I have the spindle nut socket, and the seal puller hook tool.
 
The 80 IS NOT a good "camo" method pull, since the relay rod is behind the axle. It's faster to go through the hub. That's about the only difference. Just BIGGER! lol.

I almost thought you were talking about me! LOL. My end-goal is to build a toyota bouncer, 5.7 engine with toyota axles.
 
I have no idea what a "camo" method pull is. I obviously have to look this up. Only experience with the E-locker I have is one I added to my mini truck axles in the Zuk.

I might hit you up when they get here.
 
camo is where you pull the entire hub from the knubkle forward, rather than pulling the hub without the knuckle

No. If you have the tools for the 40/60/etc. axles you have what you need for the 80. A couple of minor differences in tearing into the 80 axle compared to the others but if you've done other LC axles the 80 will give you no problem.
 
I remember that 40, it was awesome.
I think this is about 10 years ago, might have bumped into you in the woods behind the hoover met, do people still go out there? its been a decade for me but everything was starting to get clear cut when i moved away. We used to go to grey rock, gardendale and some caos rides(did that place die?) i was friends with a guy that had a couple jeeps mostly grand cherrokees hes in Birmingham always busy with auto projects even has a shop now, i had a silver tacoma pretty stock i would follow him along in but didnt take it out much. I always admired your 40
(i snaped a picture of it years ago in the woods.. It was a camera you would use and take to walgreens to get devloped before digital, i think i paid 1.50 extra to have put on a compact disc, but i always liked 40s yours sparked my interest enough to take a picture),
my plan is to get mine looking similar to yours once i repair the major issues. I think I might have ridden with a guy to buy an axle or something from you and a friend years ago in jasper, and older guy had a willys wagon style jeep that was built like crazy and a 2wd gm pick up?....anyway.. small world to find who that picture was of, good looking toyotas they are fun platforms to have as a hobbie.

That was my old shop in Sumiton. That's the original owner of the 40, JP. Him and his dad built it, and I built the cage in it for him. Later he sold the truck to me, and like a moron I tore it down to "build it"....

And it still sits, torn dowb, 8 years later.... I'm a dumbass.
