hello High Desert Cruza club,

Just wanted to introduce myself and my new FJ40 (purchased nine months ago). I purchased the rig in Alburqurque and had it shipped to Tejas. It is a '74,stock, with a grateful dead sticker in the rear window. The PO has not given me much info about it so wondering if any of you guys recognize it(more pics to come).
I am presently in the paint process and should be ready in another week.

Never seen it before. So, you like western diamondbacks?

Well it's the right color - are you re-painting it Rustic Green?

Where are you in Tejas? I'm currently in Parker County.

Congratulations on your Cruiser.

took me a second to see where you got that Jon.
don't recognize the cruiser, but there's lots of them hiding in back yards around here.

@Pappy,,, yes, about the rattlers. I raised all types of rattlers (western, eastern, mojave, black tailed, rock, speckled, panamint, timberland sure others I'm forgetting)for about ten years{also adders, vipers etc. (kept all my fingers). Now without venomous animals bcuz of wifey.

@ 1911,,, I am definitely having it painted rustic green! I was gonna paint it dark green, but, that would take away from traditional or classic. I am fixin to post pics in a week of the new paint.

attached is a pic of the rig in the paint booth (wet paint)

Was this the one with the recently rebuilt F engine and the rebuilt carb (having small issues). The previous owner ran out of cash, did not install a new clutch and did not have the flywheel resurfaced when the engine was pulled, owed the repair shop down on 4th street money, etc....

If so, I saw it being worked on in the shop and stopped by and talked to the mechanic. This was about seven weeks ago.

Both. The rig was at the shop when I talked to the owner seven weeks ago. I was not sure if you purchased it nine months ago and left it at the mechanics to do more work. Come to think about it, a co-worker drove by a few weeks ago and the rig was parked in the back lot.

Sorry to get your hopes up about finding more info. Perhaps I will drive by the mechanic shop and see whats up with the rig.

FWIW: Looks like the wrong doors and hardtop for a '74.

they would be right for a '73, can't remember exactly when some of those changes occurred. maybe it's a late '73/early '74 and they were using up parts. Toyota was famous for that.
it's a 4speed right?

by the way, black tails are some of my favorites. they are protected now aren't they? Tigers are cool too with tons of variation in colors. I saw tons in Tucson as part of my fire dept duties (removing them from people's yards).

@bionic.... yes the doors and top are mos def correct. The production date is '73/titled '74

black tails are great cuz they're sooo mellow(not sure about endangered status///its been years for me. good size too.
Above that, i was defntly partial to rock rattlers and klaubers rattlers. Great colors, mild temper, good profit margin. If I had to do it over(or if I git back into it) I would mainly collect/keep tropical rattlers and south american vipers. I have never had the reflexes to keep mambas or australian elapids:skull:.
