NOT DONE YET!? :o.....well in that case, don't forget the auto-pilot, a live king cobra alarm system with mongoose reset feature, the Kohler double basin kitchen sink, and a geisha girl for good measure :flipoff2:
Seriously HZJ-60_GUY, that is one SICK rig already :D

Me likey the 1-HZT diesel with turbo charger - didn't your rig originally ship with the 12HT? And, was the 1-HZT hard to find?

Suspension is in good condition - I'm buying this off a previous wheeler who moved to a Defender 90. Rancho 9000s on all corners and shackle lift. 33x12.5's

I haven't had the chance to drive it yet - its in Colorado.

I just got a 1984 FJ 60 Land Cruiser - any "must haves"? I'm going to put a new stereo in it so it can interface with my iPod etc. The engine has been re-worked and is pushing ~ 230 HP - I don't have the mod list with me. Any thing I should make sure and get/check/or change? I've already bought it as its at the right price.

230 hp? You're gonna need a wing...oh and some red fuzzy seatbelt covers.

1. Turbo diesel engine.
2. Factory Full floater rear with disks
3. Low gears and ARB lockers
4. Spring over suspension
5. 37" tires
6. 50 gallon fuel tank
7. 10,000 winch

How are your snake blinders and mud flaps? ;)
If your power steering pump ain't leaking you are
a lucky man. :D
Seriously....get the basics right first and the geebobs
and off road toys are much more fun.
Congrats on what sounds like a great cruiser!
You'll be lifting and locking before you know it.
The choices are almost endless.

Dogboy, my rig came with a 2H (4.0 liter) and it HAD an AXT turbo kit when I bought it. The trouble is the engine needed a serious rebuild. So instead I bought a 1HZ. I bought the motor trans tcase as one unit from G&S cruisers out of Vancouver BC.

http://gscruiserparts.com/index.html

I sold the 2H and bought the 1HZ from Sheldon at G&S. Im going to add the Safari turbo soon.

Contact Sheldon or Greg at G&S. They can answer all your questions.

From what I have read the cibie are a better choice. I don't own either (yet) but the cibie will be my choice.

sorry for the hi-jack

http://dsl.torque.net/products/products.html

I've run the Cibie's for over 5 years on two different vehicles and love them. I've also heard they are better than the Hellas but I have no experience with them to compare.

I also like my radio mounted in my Tuffy. Keeps the dash looking stock to thieves and as already mentioned you can lock your ipod in there too.

add sawzall to that :)

What do your guys think about a Cummins Diesel w/ 5-speed conversion out of a previous generation Dodge Ram? That is why I do not want o spend too much on my engine and transmission b/c that will come in the future. Those Cummins can push 600 hp with the right upgrades with even more torque.

Although I do like Diesels, I think this is a bit over the top. Too much torque will just break stuff. Unless you are going to do a swap right away, fix the 2F and drive the truck. After you do 50K miles, you'll have a good idea of what it needs to be right for you.

That suggestion was only hypothetical. I do not have the money nor the resources to perform that conversion. Possibly sometime in the future though. For now, I am worring about getting it running right and funding insurance.

Must Haves

Spare Fuel Filter
Misc. bits-and-pieces of rubber hose to fit coolant system.

Those two are the only things that have brought me to a halt.

Spare V belts

Used AAA once in 19 years, 406,xx miles of operatring my FJ60.

Additional goodies:
gutted ( or working) smog pump
spare fuel pump . . . aint that right Lowtideride :-)

Now, go back to all the other posts for the "wowzer, bling, neat , I gotsta have one" stuff

Needs: full set of Field Service Manuals, spare hoses, spare belts, spare tire, HiLift jack, basic tools.

M

Wow I feel so dumb everytime I read this thread. Anyways, after a few months here are my suggestions:

Lights (if you do a bit of night time driving you'll be amazed). I went with IPF 920Hs, and IPF X51 Bulbs, they're great and I didn't have to change the wiring harness.
Hi-Lift, makes spare changes a breeze if you're lifted.
FSM. Get it.

haha....if you remember i had a new one in the box...the problem was they sent me the wrong one....but i had one :D

I'll second, third, or whatever we're at, the repair manual...can't
live without 'em...saved my tuchus. If you're going to go
with the fancy stereo bit...throw in the extra cash for the alarm.
I learned about that all too well two weeks ago. All the body
armor and lifts in the world won't save you from some jackass
with a eye on your stereo...I never thought I'd do the alarm
thing...she doesn't look break in worthy!!!

oh....and a second job. :crybaby: ;p
