I wanted to get the charger too but I'm getting a 200 instead. 30k vs 10k but the 200 will be faster and offer better mileage. Check out Carl's (just differentials) 200 it's amazing.

For me it wasn't just the cost to add SC and all that entails, but writing off at least another $15k in our still low mileage 100 series @ 130k miles if I went to another vehicle. I would essentially be throwing away at least that amount in sliders, bumpers, batteries, roof rack, tires, etc. My "improvements" are somebody else's worst nightmare. Mods might net $.10 on the dollar in resale.

I agree, a larger displacement engine would solve many of the problems, but frankly the 100 Series is already on the big side for tight trails around here. Our rig is a known quantity for us, and it's a damn good on road/off road vehicle, doing the duty of two.

For straight up towing I would go towards a diesel pickup. And my ultimate offroad vehicle, I would probably steer towards an *older* LC as a starting point. Not a newer one. Really easy to swap in LSx V8's and Cummins diesels into the 60 series, for example.

As vehicle technology improves (meaning ever more of it every year), ironically their reliability and longevity decrease. Think door lock actuators, power everything, dual zone AC, AHC Globes, VSC/A-TRAC, a network of computers and sensors etc.
