So recently my CEL came on, P0022/P0012, these are the cam position sensor codes. I originally thought, crap what the hell is going on. My friend initially told me this had happened either from jump timing on the chain, bad chain tensioners due to lack of oil or just clogged or bad oil checked valves. It really could have been anything. He did bring up that normally its bad only on one side, and normally its not bad on both. So I had to do some investigation. I recently had some maintenance done and the oil pan had to be resealed and another oil change was done. I made sure that my friend remembered to put the alluminum housing back on correctly and the the aluminum channel in the middle was reinstalled. Well, when I removed this oil filter housing, I found this.

The filter basically collapsed on itself, and the middle channel was gone. I'm wtf, but its ok, I atleast know what's wrong and not something catastrophic. I then proceeded to order a new filter housing so I can take the aluminum cap off. But when I was comparing with what I have and how everyone else's Jowett Billet cap looked, mine looked very different. Mine on the left without the spring etc and aluminum funnel. What's on the right that I keep seeing from everyone. I remember doing the initial oil change and didn't have this problem. So i'm seeing if anyone can shed some light!

I ordered a new oem cap Part# 15620-0S010, hopefully @brianjowett or another LC200 guru can shed some light on this.

When you replaced the original black cap with the aluminum have you switched the inner support tube to the new aluminum cap?

Is the first picture your housing? Is that the Jowett housing? It doesn’t look like any housing I’ve ever seen on any Toyota/lexus product.

Luckily I was able to clarify with Brian. I actually purchased the car from him, so it is definitely a Jowett Oil cap. I remember when I purchased the car it had his prototype oil cap, but i didn't know what was prototype about it. Now I know. turns out this was his performance prototype. The inner tube where the perforated funnel would be, he replaced it with a metal tube. and the car original came with a shortened funnel to make up the difference for the oil filter length, but that has been lost, hence the collapsed filter. So hopefully that would be it for this CEL rendition.

So I literally made an account to post to this thread. I've been a lurker for a year but just had this happen to me. Went on a trip back in November of last year down to GA. 800 mile trip. 200 miles in my GX started leaking oil like crazy. I'm a technician by trade and didn't have any tools with me because I assumed my 70k mile GX was g2g for a while before needing any work.. I also never let anyone touch my cars. Oil filter cap was leaking. Found a Dorman metal cap at an autozone in VA. Had a local Toyota dealer install it. They did it free of charge. Started getting the p0022 and p0012 codes. Changed the solenoids and it didn't fix it. I had a suspicion it was the filter collapsed after finding this thread. Changed the oil and there it is.. The lube bunny never installed the cartridge center support. So hopefully if someone else runs into this scenario and finds this thread like I did. This is the first place to check when the timing codes pop up after a service..

thanks for the post. I’m sorry this happened to you. I’m also glad you were able to drill down to what the problem was quickly due to other postings before.

That filter is surely crushed.
