Thanks,
I had been looking for a console for a while. For the price, I'm sold. I like the heater switch in the dash also.

Installed Mine Today

Thanks Calphi for posting this thread! I installed mine (black) today and have to say it's great! A whole lot more storage, very comfy armrest at the perfect height for me, and everything everyone else said.

Four ROUND cup holders! :D

It's a  job, just a bit of measuring to get it right. I installed mine about an inch or so off center to make room to pull up the emergency brake and it still clears the passenger seat just fine.

I drilled and tapped the holes since mine were a bit boogered and used 1/2 inch 1/4x20 screws with fender washers over neoprene washers to mount it using the re-drilled stock holes. Moved the heater switch to the dash as Micah did (Great idea Micah!) and bent the temp control inside the console in the full hot position.

Okay, some pics ;)

that don't look right ;)

oh, disregard my message this afternoon :D

Looks good Chris. Im glad you got that in there. That was fast delivery. Did you order it right after the meeting???

I'm thinking of doing this mod as well. Does the heater switch just have a wire that runs under the carpet? Red Cruiser, are you seats stock and just recovered? I have my driver and passenger seats switched (long story) so need to be sure there's enough room for the seat levers. On your install it looks like they should still fit.

No, you have to splice in some wire and feed it under the carpet. Not a big deal but kind of annoying. I used the old coat hanger trick. My seats are stock as far as I know, charcoal interior on the 88 FJ62. What color are yours? My seat levers are in front, yours on the side? Sounds like one of us don't have the original seats.

Calphi switched his seats and started this thread so that shouldn't be an issue.

Well worth doing IMHO.

No power on mine either (yeah!) and Calphi has the power options iirc.

I wonder if there were fabric options in 88?

Sorry for the hijack.
I do like the console you chose, however being able to lock the console is not important to me and I am to cheap to spend the $60.00. So I picked this up at a thrift store for $1.00 Sprayed some adhesive on the top of the existing console and on the cloth bottom of the not so new one. pressed them together, then added a counter sunk magnet above one of the screws in the top to keep the lid closed when I open the bottom one. Now I have an arm rest, ice tray and two cup holders. Two console better than one?

can you measure the distance from the front lower air system to the front of the Box. IM thinking of puting it in my truck but i have a B&M shifter that takes up alot of room. So i want to see if it will fit. Also can you measure the distance forward from the mounting bracket from the old box?

Micah- Don;t forget to post pics after you get it installed. I'm thinking of the black which would go better with the charcoal interiors of our 62's.

Just realized that I never posted a picture of mine installed, sorry about the wait

Ok i'm sold and really like what i see here, for the price you can't beat it. this would look nice for that long drive to Pismo in Nov.

Micah's idea is much more better. "Coins holder's? We don't need no stinking coin's holder's!!"

Don't need no stinking "coins holders" thats what the ash tray is for, right? i love the switch idea on the console really cool.
