did Doughboy get it to work in the dash of an 80?
which plug did you use? or does it have to have a dedicated hot lead all the way to the fuse panel ?

You can use the Rocker Switch USB socket for the 80 series. That works just fine

I got the switch from your Ebay store, and installed it into the center console.

shipment was very fast.

I installed mine today... Decided to move my center diff lock switch to the dash and put the USB ports in the center console where the CDL originally was. After trying to find a suitable spot for the volt meter, I decided that was as good as any. Its kinda a hard to read during the day with light, but at night its easily read, and does not distract or annoy at all. Very happy and very easy to install.

Got my order yesterday and want to ask, how to wire the voltmeter? I'm going to run dual batteries and have a voltmeter in the dash. Can this one be wired just for the second battery?

Yes, I am electrically challenged. :) Thanks for the help.

Sorry for the late reply been a long month.. If you havent already done so. Yes you can wire it your second battery by running a fused positive and negative cable from the voltmeter directly to the second battery. Hope this helps!

Just wanted to pop back in and let everyone know that both my volt meter and my USB outlets are working great and I could not be happier

For a 1995 LC. One New Duel USB Rocker switch please. I have some other goodies coming from you as well. If you want to wait and ship together that is fine with me. Thanks.

What size fuse would you use for the voltmeter?

Thanks,
Ron

What size fuse would you use for the voltmeter?

Fuses protect your wire size, so you choose the wire, and then choose the fuse. I got these volt meters from Ebay and they draw 15 mA (I measured) each. You can feed the meter with a very small fuse-even a 3 amp fuse would be far more current than these meters draw. Just keep in mind, the fuse protects the wire. If you run say 18ga wire (plenty for this application), I'd likely use a 10-15 amp fuse. You can look things up here:

For dual battery monitoring, it's slick to install dual volt meters, and switch them with a double pole switch. Then you can monitor both batteries, but turn them off at night. I have mine wired that way, and in camp, when just checking on things, I just turn the meters on briefly and take the readings.

This is during the install in my FJ60. Works great though, and is especially helpful when the batteries are being charged with the solar panel.

Hi all,

Cruiserdrew, how did you wire this voltmeter? Adapted to the stock wiring harness?

Thanks much,

Alan

FloridaFJ80 - Can you share how those four outlets/gauges are wired? Ignition hot only or always on? Direct to the fuse panel?

Looks great thanks.

How do I place an order? I'm interested in a carling dual usb and two voltmeters for my dual battery setup. Thanks.

Alan-Very sorry, I missed your post for some reason. Wiring these were easy. Both of my batteries have a lead that runs to a aux fuse block. So from each fuse block, I ran an 16 ga wire to the back to the dash. They share a common ground, so that I just ran back to my ground bus in the house battery fuse block. Sounds harder than it is. I also wired it through a single throw double pole switch, so I could turn off the voltmeters when I don't need to look at them, like when I sleep in the truck at night. They only draw about 15 mAmp so you could leave them on without draining the battery significantly.

It would be simple to wire into the stock harness under the dash which would also read the same voltage. In fact, I was almost going to use the cig plug wiring as a source.

Lots of choices in small cheap voltmeters-check out Amazon and Ebay or order some of these from FloridaFJ80.
