New Aussie FJ40 owner!! - Now Lifted 4".....well kinda

Hey All,

Thought I'd do a quick intro....just purchased a FJ40 off a mate and am about to build it up into a trail rig.

My daily driver is a 94 4Runner with a Lexus V8 and a bit of bling, which I try to keep looking nice, so don't do much serous offroad work.

I was building up a Suzuki Sami/Jimny based tube buggy over the last 12 months....

But it was getting too expensive, specially since we are getting a house soon, so am selling off all my buggy stuff, and have bought this FJ40 off a mate. It's been completeley restored and has a rebuilt 3F motor and it comes with some custom 4" leaf packs (which aren't fitted yet). Plan is to fit the springs and get some new shocks to suit. Swap my 37" Iroks off the buggy for something in a 35" and fit them along with my 15x10 MT Classic II's, then a cage and some auto lockers front and rear, then wheel the sh!t out of it. Can't wait!! Am getting heaps of ideas alread from looking around here!!

Thanks for the welcome!!!

The buggy had a long way to go yet!! I pulled the pin early in the buildup stage, but had bought a heap of gear for it!! Luckily I've just about sold it all so I can get the FJ trail worthy asap.

And yep, I love the colour too!

is that a nissan badge on the front? anyway nice truck where abouts are you located in oz?

Jeez, everybody spots that LOL......so yeah it is. The current owner, one of my mates, is a Nissan lover at heart, and put that on there!! Every time I see it I cut the thing off, but it keeps ending up back on there. When I pick it up next week, it'll be finally gone for good!

Am on the East Coast of Australia on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

Twisty,

Nice 40 and welcome to the dark side, I am on outers as well.

If you are looking to swap those IROKs I have some 35 BF Muds that are near new.

Thanks mate......and thanks for the offer on the tyre swap, but am thinking of going to something a bit stronger for the 35s. It's between Bias Claws and Swamper TrXuS MT's at this stage (Ryano at Fourby's will be looking after me!). They've still got to drive/wear good on the black stuff, but I don't want to be worried about staking them offroad.

Your welcome to buy the 37's off me but :D

Welcome to Mud:flipoff2:

Nice looking truck!

Lup:)

Very nice cruiser. In fact all three projects are nice. I used to have an older model 4 runner as well but no where near as nice as yours. I look forward to seeing your project as it progresses.

Beautiful cruiser. One that nice I'd be hesitant to "wheel the sh!t out of it". Also take a look at the Toyo Open Country MT's. Very nice tires.

Welcome to Mud...:flipoff2:

Those are some mean kiwi crushers

Great looking rigs Mate!

Welcome to mud.

I was wondering about the flares on your fj40, are they molded into the body? They look really clean, is that a fiberglass tub?

Thanks!

It's still a steel tub, but yep, the flares are molded to the body, the guy has done a really neat job on them. There is some steel rod that runs around the edge of the flare, then sheet metal has been blended back into the tub.

I don't know how long I will be keeping it that way but, as I'll need something wider once the 35's go on, and I reckon it'll be a set of TJ flares.

Yeah I agree, it is a little too nice.....the first scratch/dint is going to hurt.

I couldn't resist not bolting the 37x14 Iroks on for a look. Am really going to miss these tyres when they sell. I will put them back on and go for a bit of a run once I get the lift in (if I've still got them)

Nice rig! Love the color! Too nice to wheel in my opinion, but what the he!! ! I think I would be too worried about the body if it were mine. I'm too worried about the body on mine and its not near as nice as yours! Good luck! Send me a picture after your first offroad trip when you have a big scrape down the side, or lay it on its side so I can feel a little better about doing the same to mine! :)
Just kidding, I'm sure that will never happen to you! :)
