Have you considered Gamiviti? I had the ARB on order to replace my FR which I found to be too noisy. It also catches the wind due to its height. With the ARB fiasco, I replaced the FR with a Gamiviti. It barely sits above the shark fin and it’s much quieter than the FR.

Just had my Gamiviti installed on Wednesday. Very pleased. I would share pics but I’m traveling and the pics would look just like @catastrofe . Like him, I have a Gobi ladder and Tim moved the inner portion of the rear-most bar forward just enough so that the ladder will be clear when the tailgate is raised yet also staying just behind the fin.
I’ll post pics when I get home next week.

Can someone please explain what's so great about the actual Gamiviti rack itself? I understand the customer support and small company USA made and the owner is a great guy and all that....this is definitely a big plus. But at the end of the day, what you're really buying is a rack. In terms of features, capacity, versatility, functionality, ease of use, mounting options, accessories (either stock, aftermarket or DIY), long-term structural and cosmetic reliability, etc. what are you actually getting with a Gamiviti rack? Their marketing material, even basic photos or information is, in a word, non-existent. Can someone please explain why the rack itself is so amazing beyond just "it's built really well and the owner is a great guy"? Thanks!

Maybe call up Gamiviti and talk to him? If you’re looking for a safari style there are only a few options. ..

Having owned both the Frontrunner and now the Gamiviti on the same vehicle, I'll try to answer:

- The Gam is lower profile than the mass-market brands.
- Being lower profile, and not having side "blades" like Frontrunner, Rhino, ARB, a windy day doesn't result in the buffeting of your vehicle.
- The Gam is quieter than the Frontrunner. I've read that the Rhino is noisy due to it's north-south orientation, but I have no personal experience (unlike the FR).
- The construction can be customized to your liking unlike the mass-market brands.
- There are a number of accessories available. Not as many as Frontrunner, but enough that it hasn't dissuaded some of us from purchasing the Gam.
- It's really well built and the owner is a great guy.

Do you work for ARB USA?. . .you're both in Seattle. :p

I can echo everything above. For me it was a comparison to the Gobi. The “floor” of the Gam is flat whereas the Gobi has a slight curve to it. Also the Gam does not have a “railing” if you use it in the default orientation. And the platform is wider than the Gobi By about 10”. This enables me to secure wider loads to the rack. Customization was also huge for me. I didn‘t want a full time floor due to the associated weight and because vario hooks I would use for securing things would catch in the mesh floor at the wrong places. With the Gam you can have a more open wire grid under all or part of the rack and wherever you want. In my case I purchased 3 of the plastic grids which snap into place and provide me with a platform when I need it. When I don’t I simply remove and store them. I also had Tim add “stepping stones” at various locations to step on and for more attachment points.

Here are some sample pics for when I was adding the Maxtrax holders (which can be mounted in many spots and along the side).

Also, if you are truly interested in purchasing a Gam then there are YouTube videos. And posts by various MUD members showing their Gam racks and how they are using them,

Tim is essentially a one person operation. And he is busy building racks! I saw maybe a dozen completed racks hanging up at his place waiting to be shipped.

Let me also address the elephant in the room when it comes to the recent ARB release. Tim designed bis rack for the 200 series so that the rearmost bar is behind the radio antenna fin. This keeps his rack low. And when he learned that I have a Gobi ladder he modified this bar so that it would not be impacted by the ladder when the LC tailgate is raised.

Okay, this is all extremely helpful, especially the pictures! I guess I'm just a very visual person and was frustrated by the lack of pictures and/or videos, which was compounded by the lack of really any in-depth information whatsoever.

The customization is a nice touch. For example I'd love a full sized rack with an insert for the area over the sunroof, so it could be open and unobstructed in road trip/grocery getter/beach cruiser mode, but filled in with usable surface area in overland/off-road camping/SHTF mode.

Also, it appears the cross-members are welded, something I haven't seen on any rack except the ARB, and which supposedly increases rigidity and capacity while reducing weight and complexity....so that's a nice touch too.

Low profile and low wind noise (and ostensibly low MPG impact) is a huge plus for me too. Despite all the glowing things people have to say about FR, the massive cross-section it takes up is a massive problem. This might not be such as issue if your rig is used 90-100% for off-roading specifically, but it's a horrible downside for daily driving or highway/travel use if you care much about drag, fuel efficiency, wind noise, overhead clearance, etc. Especially when the extremely high upfront cost of the FR is considered, factoring an arguably unnecessary 0.5-1MPG recurring cost at the pump is just a kick in the balls.

The walkable surface grating (removable?) looks awesome too! I imagine this would be great for many RTT options, or even makeshift/DIY RTT using a standard tent.

Also, this appears to use pretty standard (steel?) tubing, which makes future mods, repairs, welds, etc. much easier than a more proprietary extruded aluminum type thing. That's huge for me.

Okay, I'm definitely adding the Gamivitti towards the top of my list. The ARB still looks really good, has many of the advantages of the Gam, but with a sleek, modern design and great local support (yup, ARB US HQ is here in WA). But if I can get a Gamivitti with the customizations I'd like for around the same price, I think that's the way to go!

Did a little more digging on these walkable panels and found this video. This link starts at the section where he demonstrates EXACTLY the feature I had in mind, a removable sunroof panel....which is supposedly a standard offering with his racks. Very cool! Yup, I think this just jumped to the top of my list!

Nice analysis,! What is the height of the roof line? Have any pics of the attachment clips?

Nice setup. What is the overall height from the roof line? Is this rack powder coated?

Just posted this on another thread, and remembered I started this thread last year:

"Bringing this one back. I got an email today that ARB will be shipping the new design Base Rack soon, and I reserved mine for an August installation.

No details were given to me by Mudrak other than it's coming...if anyone has info, I'd love to read it.

Also, who is going full size (84") vs 3/4 (61")?

I've been away from Mud for soooo long. You guys have been busy during the shutdown. At least my guitar collection grew : )"

Just to confirm…this would be the base rack
That accommodates for the LC200 shark fin? I’m interested in it for my 2019 and was about to call up ARB to see if their rack was compatible with the US spec cruisers

I have no confirmation from ARB, but they halted distribution due to this issue and are now shipping the racks again. I'm guessing they are now compatible. Definitely contact them to confirm.

I just spoke with ARB and they said they’re in production but due to shipping delays it might be 2-3 months to get them stateside.

I am not in a hurry and am willing to hold off but not thrilled about the wait either

They should really learn how to use the power of the internet to updates customers. Having us contact them is bologna...

They have press releases & a website (that needs updating) to inform us. They're not a small company (vs some of the custom builders on the forum).

Hi,
can someone tell me how much height does it add when compared to stock roof rails at the heighest point?
Thank you
I believe we'll need to wait for someone to get the revised version that fixes the issue with shark fin interference to get an answer to that question. But it's something I'd like to know as well. I have a hunch a number of us have limited extra height available with our garage doors. For me at least, it's for 2 reasons - the clearance for driving in and out with the door open (as the door sticks down a bit below the rails when at the max height) and clearance to open the tailgate. These 2 things limit me on tire and suspension changes as well as replacing the stock roof rails with anything that ends up being higher.

A good garage door company can adjust your garage door rails to increase your head height below your opened garage door. I had it done on a previous house and got 2"-3" more head room under garage door. Just a thought.

Yeah, that's definitely worth exploring, but I still wouldn't have too much room to work with. Just adjusting the opener to pull the door further up on the rails, if possible, would make a difference. Larger tires might take 1/2"-1" of the extra height, a suspension lift would easily take another inch, and at that point there's nothing left for a rack that's higher.

Got my truck back from my installer with my new ARB BASE rack 1 day before an awesome 2 week Wyoming and Colorado trip. Mine is on an 08 with no shark fin, which my installer ordered during that small window where they were still shipping the original design. The rack is exactly what i wanted and worked great. The mounting eyes are super easy and very heavy duty.
