My mom grew up in Northern Ontario. Sioux Lookout.

Lucky lady.. lol. Thats like northern northern ontario man way up past thunder bay. Im kind of in the middle, closer to toronto than to thunder bay. My tenant was up that way last winter working the geology end of a drilling project for 4 months straight.

^^ yeah yeah.

Broken dog ? On the front high synchro is what the aa guy and I came up with. As soon as he saw the pictures he knew where the chunks came from. Awesome tech service! So now theres a rebuild kit, new updated shift forks, and updated shift linkage comin my way. Gotta brush up on my mechanicizin skills I guess..

While dicking around under the van today I also noticed the ladder bar mount at the frame is loose so that might be another unrelated clunk ive been hearing. Have to dig into that whole deal and see whats going on with the funky mount and orbit eye set up under there.

Now its scotch time , helps round out a day nice.

Took off the ladder bar or anti wrap bar or whatever last night and found a surprise. Besides the orbit eye mount at the frame which had just a little play I found that one of the axle mount bushing sleeves had cracked and split. Must have drove like that a bit since the sleeve is pried apart a good 2 inches lol. Maybe thats why the van was bouncin more than usual while under power....

Gonna replace both 3/16" sleeves with some 1/4" ruff stuff ones I had laying around, maybe thatll fix it.

D

Ladder bar got the new bushing sleeves and some extra gussets. New hardware, a couple modifications to the front mount and it should be good to go. Just waitin on the paint to dry now. Surprisingly enough all the bolt holes lined up perfect after I fully welded it, wierd..

Ladder bar is back in and that job is done. Started to tie the rear bumper wings in to the frame behind the rear tires yesterday. Got the tube bent and cut and both frame mounts finished up, just have to tack everything together then fully weld it. Used 2 existing holes in the frame behind the shackle for the frame mounts just had to enlarge them slightly.

Woohoo I get to weld upside down again, been a while lol.

Gotta lay down the law man.

Good and bad day yesterday. The good is the aa package came in and seems to have everything needed to rebuild the t case. Actually looks like theres too many widgets and bearings for my liking lol.

Added another tube to the front bumper with a couple sprocket gussets the other day, may as well throw that in the good column as well.

The bad part isnt really bad, maybe just for my wallet. Broke down and got another set of trucklites. They looked bas ass on the front of the 40 and I love the white light output compared to the yellow of even the cibbie/osram combo I had on the 60. Mounted them up last night and man o man they look sweet!

Anyone need a set of cibbie housings and bulbs lol?

D

Ah fawk. Ya caught me makin stuff up again. Sorry ok? Lol.

D

I said that more because I'm curious how those truck-lite LED headlights look and how well they work.

Bull****, you caled me out and saw through my lies!

Meh, they do look mint man and im not ashamed to admit the way they made the front of the 40 look played a major part in getting a set for this junker. There are probably better led lights out there but I dont have robot eyes and they work wicked in my buddies xj, the white light makes the biggest difference. Besides while still over priced theyre way cheaper than the speakers and dont look all alien like. Just black. They blend in with the black surround and grill well and stick out a bit more than regular housings.

Should be getting my new puter by friday so ill post then if I can figure it out.

Threw the teeny tiny tires on yesterday since it was +5 outside then I tore into the transfer case. Took two of us and a ratchet strap to seperate the damn thing from the transmission, man was that ever a tight fit. She came out though and is on the bench now.

The aa dude was right, the synchro dogs on the front drive side are broken and the brass synchro on the front high side is worn pretty good. Got as far as taking the cluster pin/gears and the shift rods and shift control out last night but after one too many drinks it seemed like a better idea to quit before I lost a bunch of stuff.

Gonna hit it again today and take some pitchers.

We got the bastard rebuilt yesterday! Did the front drive first, replaced all the bearings (59 of em lol) and threw in the new synchros and solid synchro dogs. The old dogs were stamped steel units and all three were broken on the high gear side. The high gear synchro was worn out pretty good while the low gear one was fine but we replaced it anyways.

The rear drive looked brand new which supported the rumour that the po had t case problems when he first got it and had the rear drive rebuilt. Synchros looked exactly like the new ones in the rebuild kit and had no wear at all so we just replaced the stamped dogs with the solid ones and called it good.

Both sides got the new forged lookin shift forks which are way stiffer than the plate steel forks that were in there. Everything got torqued, preload on the front drive bearings was adjusted and the cluster gear and pin was put back in. New shift linkage got cut to fit and thrown on on the bench and the damn thing actually shifts! Wow.

Took pics but havent bothered to figure out the new computer so ill throw some up this week sometime.
