bling -- ;)

Haven't you heard the TRD sticker will add at least 10hp, I figured I'd leave on just in case thats true :)

Mine had TRDs on the back corners (like they do when Toyo actually puts something inside). Made my 3FE feel faster for the month is took me to get them removed.

Okay Guys this is what the mechanic is telling me

Replace Front Diff Seals 12 hours Labor $816
Seal Kit $129

Replace Rear Main Engine Oil Seal 6 hours Labor $428
Seal Kit $ 24

Replace Speedo Parts & Labor $91

Total $1488

Any feedback on this is appreciated (ie good price, am I being ripped off, anything I should look out for. )

Thanks

Ouch! You could probably do alot of the work yourself.

$68 an hour for labor is cheap, but i doubt they spend that much time on your vehicle anyway --

-- cheap seals, too -- you going OEM?

The birfs (Diff seals) probably need to be repacked at that milage - here's a link to my project, just to give you an idea of what's involved if you want to do it your self. I replaced all the bearings (wheel & trunion) and went with all synthetics for under $250 (and a weekend). Just make sure the mechanic is replacing the inner axle seal - most kits don't come with this part (a couple of bucks and easy to do when you're in there).

What needs to be done on the speedo? The gear, cable, and cluster are all really easy to work on...I donno about $90 (seals are a few dollars - gear and cable $20-$30 IIRC).

Rear main sucks - might be worth it if it's leaking alot...

Good luck!

Tucker

I'm going OEM, and I don't have the wrench time to handle this kinda job on my own. I'll check on the front bearing replacement. Thanks guys I appreciate your help.

Biff,

The price for the front axle is about right, although Sleeoffroad replaces more than just the seals for that price. Also, Slee (because I was told by a Toyo Dealership that my rear main seal was gone) finds that often it is not the rear main seal but the oil pan that is leaking. That was the case with my 95.

Can you make it out to CO where Slee is located? He is the "man" when it comes to your model. Great service, too. Hit his website for more info.

Thanks Tucker, your link really helps. On the speedo he wants to replace the speedo sleeve. Chg one hr of labor and $23 for the sleave. You think this could easily be replaced?

Biff
where are you???
my shop (f@rd dealership) is at 76 an hour so 68 does not sound that bad.
Dave

You shouldn't need to replace the sleeve on a LC - just the o-ring seals (2) if it is leaking. Your looking at 20 min. on your back in the drive way and $5 in parts to do this (most of the time being spent removing the skid plate) :D

Tucker

Here's a writeup from Sleeoffroad.com on doing the whole speedometer gear ... but it will give you an idea of what you'd be dealing with.

Thanks Tucker, I'm going to do my own work on this one.

Wow.. 1000 bones for front differential seals?? Didn't someone (Brentba??) just get this done for like $200?

So how does this fix your lack of hp problem anyhoo, or was the speedo just off?

Nope - not me - pinion seal and nut $180. Valve cover gasket $360.

PS birf was repacked under warranty right at 60K. DS never touched.
