new 80, need RS3000 help

Hey guys,

I sold my red FJ40 and picked up a tan FZJ80! I've been running her through the paces, and enjoying every minute of it. I have one thing I'm trying to resolve though. I didn't get a key fob with it. It has the RS3000 system so I got a remote with the right FCC ID through eBay, but that one didn't work. Does anyone have a spare remote I can use to see if it's my system or the remote? here's what happens:
1) I hold the green reset button down, the alarm dash light comes on, I press the remote button, turn car off, nothing else happens, no remote working, nothing

2) I do a reset by pushing the green button, light comes on, press button again, lights blink, then no further alarm activity.

The only way I know the alarm is on is that the doors lock and unlock when I start and stop the 80. other than that, no lights, no sound, no alarm dash led, nothing. I removed the box and there was no starter motor, so, that works.

I've done the searches, but I'm not seeing this issue anywhere. a local remote would give me a place to start looking.

is it the stock alarm system? if so, the cpu unit is under the drivers seat. I got a replacement keyfob off of ebay and it worked fine. If it is aftermarket, I have no idea.

It is the stock VIP system. I ordered one remote of ebay but it didn't work. I sent it back and the guy is going to send out another one.

I really do want remote door unlock. I'm a little spoiled that way

Could be the remote - When I ordered two OEM ones from CDAN, one wouldn't program either! Dan sent another one out and it worked just fine. It wasn't user input error on my part.

Sounds like you have the RS3000 manual for the reprogramming steps tho. It's been a few years, so I can't confirm your steps w/o pulling out my manual at home.

Black or Gray

There are 2 versions of the RS3000 remote, I believe a black and gray one, the black one works the grey does not. check here.

Yes, as Landcruising said, there are two versions... also there is a guy that posted the whole manual for the VIPRS3000. It has some "sleep mode" it can go into. That's what mine was in when I bought it (1998 FZJ75) ... now it works, but I don't have the remote either, and am looking. It seems that 1998 was the watershed year between the black and grey, but it also depends, apparently, on whether it was dealer or factory installed.
Tell me if you find out what mine needs!

also, I got the toyota key fob from cdan, it is way more expensive but high quality, I got tired of the ebay cheap ones going bad on me.

Could you tell me how much they cost per unit, and if they worked well? Are they Toyota original? No problems programming? And finally, what year was the RS3000 from? Thank you!
