I installed a newly built 2F into my FJ40. I put in the break-in oil and was going to spin the oil pump to prime the engine to get ready to start it for the first time. However, I went to spin the oil pump with a screw driver through the distributor hole before I was going to attach it to a drill, but I could not turn the oil pump. I am really trying to avoid dumping the new oil and dropping the oil pan plus I have the oil pan gasket set nicely. Is there anything that I can do to troubleshoot without removing the oil pan? Unfortunately, I did not check the oil pump if it spun before I bolted it to the block.

ouch. if I recall correctly, it should spin pretty easily. If it's not, I can't think of anything other than dropping the pan taking a look from underneath. Hopefully someone smarter than me chimes in.

I think its time to break out the tools. Yea sucks to loose a new gasket, you can drain the oil into a box with a new plastic bad and re use it - yea you will loose some sticking to the bag. The good news is you didn't ruin the motor by having a bad oil pump.
