Hello, I just bought a 100 series land cruiser and am new to ownership. I need to get new tie rods does anyone have any certain brand to go to. Due to age and uncertainty of ball joins i am just going to replace them, I know everyone goes for 555 ball joints, but if I can get SPC are those better. Is it also better to just replace the whole control arm with tubular with the ball joints or just replace the ball joints. The rack and pinion is leaking, is there a seal kit for it or is it just recommended to replace it? Also noticed the windshield washer fluid goes to only the front and not the back, any solutions for this? I also live in New England area but i bought the car since it was a California car so there is no rust. Parts with a coating would be best so they don't rust away fast.

I forgot to mention it's a 2000. Any other recommendations and suggestions are appreciated. All the basics are going to be done such as changing fluids.

Time to start using the search function!

I would start driving it and figure out what you need over time instead of loading up the parts cannon. 555 is the go to if not OEM - they do come unpainted, so you get to do that yourself. You don’t say mileage, but my ball joints on the LX have 242k miles on them. I did reboot them last summer when the original boot cracked. I wouldn’t bother with SPC unless you plan on lifting it (I have SPC on my 100).

I normally change all the fluids when I get a new one, and use AT-205 with the new fluid. It’s very effective at reconditioning the rubber seals and can reduce or stop leaks. It did work on my steering rack and my transfer case front output shaft for about 40k miles.

Okay, thank you. I definitely need new tie rods as the cup came off. Ball joints and control arm are just something I'm worried about, the truck is at 286k. It been worn and just want to make sure everything runs smooth for a long time. So I do plan on replacing those soon.

At 286k you may consider rebuilding the front end with new bushings, as well. Partsouq.com is a great source - put in your vin and you get all the parts diagrams. Parts usually take less than a week to arrive. Serra Toyota is running a great sale right now, and Cruiser Outfitters has a great selection and fast shipping.

I rebuilt my lower control arms, but many just replace them. You still need to replace a bushing on the frame, though.

Replacing all the rubber bushings you can reach is not difficult and makes a difference in the ride quality. Front & rear sway bar bushings, sway bar links, front differential bushings, center diff mount, engine mounts, etc. I get all my parts through Ayama or Impex. The latter is slightly less expensive in my experience.

Ive been working on all of those parts and chipping away at it.
