I am looking to do a tune up myself and need a tune up kit, shocks, and steering damper.

Does anyone know how much these would be? How do I contact Cruiser Dan?

Dave

cruiserdan is on vaction this week, But if you call American Toyota and tell them you want the IH8MUD discount since Dan is out, they will give it to you

ditto, i need a tune up, (front axel comes frist but i might tackle both same weekend)

Thanks Romer. Just curious if there is a kit that includes, wires, plugs, air filter, charcoal filter, cap, pcv? I figure if it's bundled it might be cheaper.

Just bought the 96' 80 and want to baseline everything. Also runs a little rough with the AC on and just a little under-powered. Also thinking about doing the O2' sensors.

I'll call American Toyota for price and availability.

History would help.
How mant miles on it, how was it used before, what did the PO do and where?
As a start guide with what you have mentioned, plus all fluids, belts, thermostat, hoses, PHH, check brakes and rotors. Suspension = shocks, OEM, OME, bilstein & springs, OME. greese drive shaft and knuckles.
etc

Let the spending begin and welcome:flipoff2:

I bought the vehicle from a toyota dealer without records. Engine looks clean with new belts and looks like fluids have all be changed.

So far:

4 new Dunlop Grandtrek Tires
4 new tire valve stems
Hunter system phase balance on all
Front end alignement
Steering Adjustment
Front end inspection. No leaks, bearings are tight, nothing glaring.

Issues:

1. Low speed engine?? vibration when crawling forward from stop and go traffic. Also increases when A/C is turned on. Could this be engine mounts?

2. High speed wobble/shake from 60mph up. Balancing only helped a little. Put in neutral at that speed and wobble still there. Not sure if alignment was done improperly or if it's something else. If it is still there after I put in neutral I assume it's not drive train related..not sure

3. Brakes and rotors appear good...50%+ on pads. Braking straight with zero wobble or pull. i assume it's not the rotors or pads.

4. There was too much ATF fluid in the tranny when I bought it and it looked like brand new fluid. Mechanic drained off 2 quarts. Tranny appears to shift properly and is quiet(unless that vibration is the tranny...not sure)

5. I also need to do a radiator flush. I noticed darker fluid in overflow tank...not sludge but just fluid that has'nt been changed in years I assume.

Biggest complaint is the high speed wobble. Thinking about replacing the 4 shocks with toyota factory spec. I think the truck is just a little too bouncy at 60mph + and may help with that wobble. Calling American Toyota for prices.

Just ordered 4 new shocks and air filter from American Toyota. Great deal at $139.00 with free UPS shipping.

Also downloaded the complete Factory Service Manual last night so I have a manual now. Would like to install shocks myself...need to find out what tools/equipment I need.

Hate to add more to your list but I would also do springs at the same time. I did shocks first which were great but really noticed a big difference after I did springs. Of course it would have saved me lots of time had I done them together:bounce:

Slee has a great write up.

That's interesting about springs. American Toyota said I should probably start with shocks first. This will be my daily driver and will do very little off roading. Does'nt look like it was taken off road very much from what I can tell...looks pretty clean. And thanks for the welcome!! :flipoff2: Great site and source of information.

You might add your location and info about your rig to your signature and profile so people have a little better idea of how to help. There has been a lot of coolant / hoses discussion lately that might be of interest to you. A couple 'regular' cooling system issues, like PHH and the rear heater hoses, that can cause problems down the road/trail if not caught in the driveway. Using the right coolant is important to longevity and repairs later on...at least that's what I gather from all the posts. Do a few searches, say goodbye to the wife and kidlets for a few days, then say goodbye to your $$, and welcome!

It's still better than a jeep!
