Does anyone have a trailer I can borrow? I need to get my 40 to the muffler shop and I can't flat tow it until I fix the caster. I was hoping to get the 40 to the shop on Saturday or Monday. I had to order larger shims and don't want to lose another week waiting, if I can help it....getting too close to Fall Crawl and I already have several weekends already booked.

Thanks!

Jon

Got a dolly in Woodbridge. Its the real deal. Ping me M 571 477 0738 H 571 572 3992 W 703 571 0139

Matt and I have used the system TPI sells and we've been happy with the fit and quality. It appears to be a copy of the OEM exhaust and comes with OEM hangers.

You can borrow my trailer but if I were you I would rent a dolly to save the hassle of picking up my trailer in Amissville and bringing it back. You'll need a tow vehicle with an electric brake controller for a trailer but not for a dolly.

I can't tell for certain but it sure looks the same. We've also had good luck with TPI's headers (but you need to use the OEM gasket).

Sounds like you h e some options. Get that bad boy ready for fall crawl

Jon,

You could bolt on the stock exhaust faster than going to get the trailer. The early muffler sounds great too, kinda like a nice glass pack muffler.

I'm also not a huge fan of muffler shops. Around here they expensive and don't do stellar work unless you go fully custom race car or tuner and they charge $$$

Josh Fleming and I saw a Canadian guy running this setup up in Catamount Cruiser Challenge in the mid 90's and really like the way it looked and sounded. We thought it was a custom exhaust as neither of us had seen a stock OEM Toyota early exhaust! We both bought early exhaust systems and then modified them for our 2F by welding the two pipes together just below the manifold. Piece of cake. Oogs has a welder you can use just a few miles from your house. Or you can buy the one in the ebay link that comes ready to go for a 2F. If you have a F it's all a bolt on.

Jon - If you do go the custom route are you planning to use Brian Murphy in Warrenton?

I've got a tri-Y header on it now and the exhaust manifold didn't survive the operation so OEM is no longer an option. I was going to take it to Fries Garage in Manassas, but once I get it rolling I can take it anywhere.

The steel caster shims came in today (had to go up to 6 degree shims) so I've got the front axle and springs apart and the paint on the shims is drying. I will install the shims in the morning and hopefully it will flat tow after that. If not, I'll go the dolly route.

Thanks Dave, I've got the front end apart fixing the caster right now. If that doesn't work I'll call you about the dollly.

Brian Murphy

Bobs guy out in Warrenton is the $hit, great work and even better prices. He is Landcruiser friendly and has done several trucks in our club. Have not heard of anyone being unhappy with him. He did a great job on my 62. murphy auto sports 540 439 6002

Do you have, or do you plan to install onboard air with an air tank? If so, a custom job is worth it to allow you room to install an air tank. The stock routing takes up unnecessary space. I also highly recommend the Magnaflow Hushpower muffler. It is low profile (much thinner than stock) and has great sound. Quiet at speed, with no drone, but a nice low growl when decelerating.

Tracking like it's on rails now

The shims did the job nicely, only problem is the u-bolts are about 1/4" too short. Had to leave the split washers off in the rear just to get the nuts on far enough. It's still 1/8" too short so those will get replaced when I do the leveling block (yes I have the dreaded Cruiser lean).

Hopefully it will hang together long enough to get me to the muffler shop and back.;p

Yes, I have inboard air, dual compressor but no tank yet....looking at options down the road though.

My approach was to mount a 2 gallon tank under the tub. All bolt in. Might give you an idea.

It's hard to see, but there's a piece of low wall c-channel running side to side that the tank legs are bolted to.

Wash your truck Dan, that looks filthy!

Jon,

Was that your 4Runner I saw parked at Effie's?

Yep! Thanks to your better half for the dining recommendation. We were coming back after dropping the 40 at Brian's place. Grabbed a pizza at Spitony's and some softserve at Effie's. Nothing like a drive in the country to slow down the heartrate and take a break from the rat race, if only for a few hours.
