I'm trying to get some guys from Upstate Cruisers down into GA to help a guy out.

Check out my main thread in the UC forum.
https://forum.ih8mud.com/sc-upstate-c...lled-iraq.html

I've been talking with James (screen name JamesR on MUD) for quite awhile now. He is trying to fix up a 40 but there is a little more to it than that.

James' son, Josh, was killed in Iraq on Sept 22, 2007 by an IED. James has decided that he wants to fix up Josh's 40 for Josh's son Jackson. Jackson was born only one day before Josh was killed.

James has a blog at Josh and Jackson's FJ-40 but it hasn't been updated in awhile. There are a few pics of the 40 there also. Also look at
https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series...hello-all.html
for info on the 40.

James has done a good bit of work on the 40 in the past two years and has learned a good bit along the way. Check out
https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series...cksons-fj.html
https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series...t-rebuild.html
for some info on what has been done to the 40.

Currently the 40 blows smoke and James thinks its blue. Compression warm and dry is OK - all at 120 or above but one as high as 150 so there is a decent gap between high and low. Carb isn't working correctly either. James has a whole battery of other tests to run that I've suggested. I've got lots of more info too...

I would REALLY like to get a group of UC'rs to head down to see JamesR for a day. I would be willing and probably will make a weekend out of it. He lives outside of Athens GA. James was thinking he was going to have to have the whole motor rebuilt but I think we can save him from that.

James was pretty much good for any weekend in Nov and Dec but with the holidays and my wife's business that might need to get pushed into January, I dunno. I'll donate any parts that I have that we need for the 40. James will supply sodas and pizza while we are there.

What does everyone think?

I would really, really like to roll down to Athens with a strong contingent so we can show our support. It would mean a lot to me and I know it would to James too.

Seeing as i lost some of my old Soldiers in Iraq not too long ago i will gladly help anyway i can . Either in person or parts or whatever is needed. Time for me is the hardest with this job but if i know in time i can try to take some time off.

Thank you very much. I will post up a date ASAP. Free time around the holidays are tough for me too.

I'm not the most mechanically inclined person, but would love to show him some support.

If my weekend is open, I will be there.

I'm in, depending on the time frame. I've got some older parts also, let me know and I'll see if I've got it...

Depending on the time frame we could get an ONSC caravan going down there.

I'll let Greg chime in for possibly switching the dates of the ski trip, which are still just in the planning phases, in order to help out.

We could make the ski trip a side project, and make this the "official" club trip...

Sorry guys - didn't mean to double-up on a weekend and post an event in your club forum when you already had something planned.

UC typically does MLK weekend at Tellico but it doens't look like that will happen this year.

We are getting some good buy-in from UC and GC and already have a few donations of $$$.

I am not opposed to making this a priorirty over the ski trip. Lets plan on helping out, far more rewarding than skiing....

I will follow up Brian in a PM with some ski trip info.

Looks like we have over $200 in donations already! Lots of others have offered any parts they have, we have T-s***s being designed which should be done soon, and people starting to mark their calendars so they can help.

What I could use is a handful of people to help organize...

Thanks to everyone again.

ONSC events calendar has been changed, we'll be there in January (I hope an extra 20 hands or so isn't going to get in the way!). Let us know what type of things you need co-ordinated and we're there. If you want us to take something like organizing some big groups meals for the weekend, that might take something off your list of things to worry about.

Just let Southerncruiser or myself know if you've got a specific task or responsibility in mind....

Garner - I've just started trying to divide out responsibilities into groups. Please check the UC thread at https://forum.ih8mud.com/sc-upstate...father-soldier-killed-iraq-2.html#post4913176.

At this point we are wide open - if there is something you would rather call dibs on please do so.

The biggest thing I need help with right now besides a scouting party is sponsorships and donations. I don't know how many people are going to show. I originally hoped for a handful and now we could have 30, 50, who knows so that makes meals difficult to plan for but some early meal planning would be good too. Also need people to bring tables, chairs, canopies, etc in case of bad weather. Tools are good too but we will need to keep track of everyone's tools.

Thanks so much for bringing the club - this is awesome. 20 people??? Bring'em on!!!

THANKS!!! :steer::steer::steer:

Eventhough-We will discuss this as a club and get you a figure in the next 2 weeks if thats alright. We will also create a plan with description and availabilities, we actually have quite a few specialty tools I am sure we could manage to bring down should they be needed.....

Greg I think we should get a head count going for this. I plan on being there saturday and sunday, maybe drive down friday night and leave sunday night. (more than likely I will have to work on monday. Hoping I can get some people to drive down there with for this.
