I have powder coated both the seat brackets and mounts, I have new foam from Specter and just need to add some upholstery in order to have some PERFECT correct, original rebuilt seats. So of course some Corbeau Moab adjustable seats caught my eye the other day and a pair of them cost less than the uninstalled upholstery kit from Shane. Then I started thinking, well I am going with a Metaltech family cage or JK Customs so why not get the "cradle" type seat bars added and use the Corbeaus. I know they are damn Jeep seats. They are comfy as heck. $400 ish for pair and I am done. Put old original components on ebay to pay for Corbeaus. Either way I gotta drop the coin on the upholstery and install or some modern drop-ins. I also like the idea of adjustability.

What say you fellow mudders? :p

The the original seats up on eBay. I'm sorta in the market for some stockers. I'm planning custom upholstery, so I don't need no stinkin' covers. :)

I have had two fj40's. Both started with stock seats. First forty I went with Honda prelude buckets from a junk yard. Comfortable, but sat me up too high with the seat mounts that I made. My new cruiser has Mastercraft buckets with adjustable head rests. They are incredible. MasterCraft Racing Seats / Off Road Seats I would go with the aftermarket seats if you plan to drive and wheel your cruiser. If your plan is a original restoration, than stick with what you got. Not sure on how comfortable the Corbeau moab's would be, maybe awesome. I have road in Corbeau's base line seat, the side bolsters seemed to dig in when getting in and out but where good other than that. (might also been the rig that had em did not have a roll bar to help with getting in and out.) I hope that helps!!

My 73 has factory seats and I was planning on swapping them out. After I rode in the factory ones for a while I like them and they are very comfortable. They will stay in my 40. I only do moderate 4weeling so it is not a safety concern of mine.

If you're going with an MT or JK cage, then you're obviously not going down the purist/ultra-resto road which, IMO, would be the only reason to put the $$ into the stock seats.

That said, the Corbeaus don't impress me. They'll cut off the circulation in the back of your leg if they're in a pre-fabbed rollcage seat cradle. If you're gonna go down that road, talk to a local fab guy about making the cradle for you in mock-up and make sure the cradle meets YOUR requirements.

I watched Don [fc187] do this for D'Animal on his 40.5 build. It is one of many things that impress me about Don.

Conversely, I kicked a customer's project rig out of my shop for repeatedly putting off appointments for me to do custom seat measurements for him. That's how strongly I feel about it.

Definitely dump the stockers, they put my legs to sleep in a very short time of trail riding. They don't have any side bolsters to keep you from sliding around like the sportcar type seats. I say browse the junkyards for some of those. I'm using '85 Fiero seats in both my trail rigs due to they are comfy & have headrest speakers.

Ok. What about Corbeaus or pull outs mounted/adapted to the stock frame legs?

LC_HAMMA....***I'm using '85 Fiero seats in both my trail rigs due to they are comfy & have headrest speakers.** cool idea:clap:

I bought some Pro Comp super seats meant for a heep for mine about 4-5 years ago. Way more comfortable than stockers, and my old seats were in pretty good shape. They bolted directly to my stock 79 tracks too.

I have seats from a '78 camaro and don't care for them.I don't want stock,but i hear alot about the honda seats.:meh:

You can always use 60-62 series seats and go leather, I am having vinyl made for these seats in the future, just a thought.

What about those seats from Iron Pig?
