Need to protect the rear fenders and quater panels. Any ideas? The bumper wrap-around is 3/8" plate. The rock sliders are 1-3/4" tube. And I'm trying to design it to be removeable.

I have a pair of interlocking tube clamps
Poly Performance JEEP/TRUCK & BUGGY*::*Tube Clamps & Flanges*::*Poly Performance Interlocking I.D. Tube Clamp - 4X4 Off-Road, JK Synergy Suspension Systems, Fox Racing Shox, Beard, CNC Brakes, Johnny Joints®, Currie Enterprises, Edelbrock, Pit Bull T
to weld onto the aft portion of the rock sliders, and then run tube along the fender well. But I'm having a hard time coming up with a nice looking way to protect the rest of the quarter panel and attach to the 3/8 plate bumper wing.
Also the fuel filler door is an issue.

So I'm thinking the fender tube follows the lines and is attached to the bumper wing. Then an additional peice of tubing with a 90 degree bend is attached to the rearmost part of the bumper wing and after the 90 runs under the fuel door and meets the fender tube.
Sorry for the lousy image.

The local cage builder thinks there has to be a platform for the tube at the fender wing. So he proposed a piece of plate bent at near 90 deg. with the horizontal aspect being 1-3/4 wide to weld the tube onto. And this is then through- bolted to the fender wing.

Probably pretty strong, but I'm hoping for something a little cleaner looking.

I'm just trying to provide "rub rail" type of protection, not exo-cage strength roll-over protection. Just enough to keep the sheet metal off of the random rock/tree.

Sorry for the long post, any ideas are gratefully appreciated.

Did you get your armor made? What you have for an idea is pretty good.

Oops, I need to check in more often!

No, the local guy went belly up and I suck at fabrication. It's on the "to do" list lol.

The following picture shows my solution. The rear brush bars are welded to the rear bumper and bolt to the sliders. The brush bar for the front fender bolts to the slider and the front bumper (with integral bull bar). It can all be unbolted and removed from the truck. To date, it has worked very well for me.

nice Bj70...what type of rims and tires are you running?

Thanks
Tires are 34 x 9.5 Swampers
Wheels are stock Toyota from FJ60 spares (i.e., solid center like the wheels on 40 series without the hub cap tabs). I had to shop a while to round up a set of 5.

Hi,

I wanted to do something similar fo rhte rear of my Truck. Fronts already done. Did you actually use the tube clamps and are they strong enough to take a beating?

My attachment approach is not that high tech, so I don't know how the fittings that you are considering will hold up.
Rather than try to explain my approach, I have attached the following picture on the premise that it will serve as a better communication tool than my words.

Thanks,

I like how you mounted to the slide.

You just saved me $120
