Need Pics of Rear Heater Bypass at Firewall

It bypasses the rear heat. Eliminating it requires removing rear heater core under PS front seat and associated heater plumbing running by the cat, and then plugging/repairing the holes. I left mine intact, just bypassed due to coolant leaks and corroded original pipe/hoses to reduce chance of a coolant leak breakdown. Next owner, if I ever sell, can always fix and use it if they feel it's needed.

Thanks!

I'm going to bypass the rear floor heater but leave the plumbing in place.

Any ideas what to plug the bypassed pipes with?

I did it for the same reason. Hard lines under the passenger side were leaking. Front heater still works great. May fix the rear some day? Who knows.

If you leave the rear heater core & plumbing in, I'd recommend blowing out the coolant. Easily done if you have an air compressor & temporary hose to route coolant into a container to dispose. Also plug ends of tubes on firewall to keep out dirt.

I just used RTV or silicone sealant. It'll dry as one piece and easily removed later.

No compressed air readily available. Is there another easy option to drain the rear heater core?

I don't know of any, but this can be postponed until it's available.

Use your lungs and a piece hose.
Lol...yeah, but might result in some dizzyness...

Oops.

Rear heater bypassed. Plus wrapped the wiring harness adjacent to the EGR pipe in radiant heat reflective tape.

I was being serious not my usual poor taste in humor. Not that difficult to blowout each heater core separately unless you only have one lung or are a chain smoker.

I figured you were. I was thinking about how I feel after I blow the water out of a garden hose, which is necessary to do around here when it's below freezing - I have both lungs and don't smoke. Also much more efficient with a compressor - get more of the coolant out, but you need to route it into a container to keep the splashing contained. It will shoot out quite a ways and make a mess if you don't - ask me how I know...lol.

Whoa, what are we talking about now?;)

Why does it require actually removing the unit after you bypass it?

It's not required to remove the unit, unless you want to do away with it and coolant hoses/pipes. Most leave the unit and plumbing intact, and just bypass it.

Yes I’m fully aware. Just wondering why you said it was required?

Eliminating = removing it completely; Bypassing = leaving it in place. Not sure where the confusion is, if you're fully aware, then you get the reference to eliminating the components of the system vs bypassing and leaving it in place.

Help me understand... does this bypass eliminate the rear heat or the front floor heat?

I'd like to keep the front floor heat intact.

You can "eliminate" the rear "heat" with the bypass. Eliminating the heat does not require eliminating the hardware.
