I have a 93 with close to 250,000 miles on it and know that I am going to need to replace the rear axles and spider gears real soon. I rebuilt the whole front end last fall replacing everything but the ring and pinion. The inner axle splines and the gear they rid in in the locker were barely there anymore. Looked like one good thump on the gas would have stripped them. Anyway, where is a good place to get new axles? All the gears in the locking diff i think I will have to get at the dealer, but I thought the axles I might be able to find cheaper elsewhere. Thanks,

Trent, just pull them apart and check...I just did mine last month and was supprised at how little wear there was...even with a leaky grease seal that contaminated everything.

As far as used goes...there's a couple guys that part them out every once in awhile on the For Sale board. You have a FF or a SF back there?

if you do have to replace then you can have custom "splined on both ends" ones made and use Aisin locking hubs in the rear, or solid 80 front drive plates, a double splined custom shaft will be cheaper than a custom flanged axle shaft (if even available?)

almost forgot - he's now making drop in mini-spools for cruisers. Very cool and dead easy to install. $100.

I had to replace my driverside rear FF shaft because the splines were twisted, TAP had it in stock for $160, if i ever have to replace a rear shaft again i'll call either Moser or Superior and get some cromos made up, they are both around $350 a pair, Brad.

OK, why do I need one, what is/does a spools do and why a mini?
