I'm looking for some quality lug nuts for my '88 FJ62's OEM wheels. Bought some new ones last year from Cool Cruisers and they're already bleeding rust. Minnesota winters are tough on stuff like this and I'd like to get a set that is gonna last awhile. Anybody know of some good sources out there?

Thanks

If you get new lug nuts that aren't OEM, make sure you check your lug nut wrench to make sure you have a socket that still fits. When I put new rims and tires on mine, I had the tire store put on new lug nuts. When I went to check their tightness a few days later, I found out that the socket in my OEM tool kit was now too big--the new lug nuts needed a smaller socket size. I would have been pissed had I discovered this on the side of the road rather than my driveway.

Very good point. Toyota OEM lugnuts are 21mm, most aftermarket lugnuts are only 19mm.

I live in probably the saltiest area in the province right near a steep hill that is heavily salted 5 months per year, so I know about rust first hand.

I have used McGards with great success. These lug nuts are more expensive than others, but they don't rust. When I say hardly, I mean than any staining that can happen (yes, where I live even SS can get stains, fortunately easy to rub off), it is easy to take off with a bit of hand polishing. Be carfeul, though: you can get them rusted if you let a fool fit an oversize socket on them. I have found that the best socket to use is the old spark plug socket (13/16). Perfect, tight fit = no damage if used with an impact wrench. And if you use a regular wrench and a torque wrench, there should be no reason for them to rust at all.

They are tripple chromed and are guaranteed for life. Be prepared to shell out about $4 per nut, however (probably less than half the price in the US, though  ). They usually come in packs of 4.

The set I have on my old 60 are now 6 years old and they still look great. I have some that are over 10 years old that I replaced but still have for spares, that got esthetically damaged a bit from use with a bad socket, there is a bit of staining at the rounded corners, but no flaking at all.

In our backwards parts, they are actually kept in locked cabinets at Canadian Tire.

Check this page out: http://www.projectresponder.com/mcgard-lug-nuts~5~64.htm

The page for the lug nut you're looking for for the 60 is: http://www.mcgard.com/search/default.aspx?PrimNavID=1&NavID=8.

Look under item 64002. Great stuff, perfect fit to the 60 OEM chrome wheel. here's a picture of it:

Are these the right Gorilla Lug Nuts to use: ?

LINKY

I've used Gorilla lugs for the last few years, cuz' you get the locking bit. Come in 21mm. They flake and are soft. On the west coast the rust issue isn't as much of a problem though.

costco sells mine in their tire department....at cost. I think I paid like .60 or .75 cents per.

Costco's a great idea... I'll check there too.

Thanks.

3x on Costco. I had new tires fitted for my wife's Toyota
and one was lost when I took the rig to another shop for front
end alignment... Costco has them at a fair price. Much cheaper than over $7.00 per for OEM.
