Thanks Guys, You're information helps me, as I have 71s.

I want to apologize to Gary for hijacking this. I just thought keys are an important thing and it seems we are at a loss of good information.

The Key-Men, said he could make a key from the code on the lock or ignition, so this should help.

Hopefully we can get this all together, so anyone can get a key made without the research.

Hope all of this helps.

Key info

Looked at my door lock key today- it's made from a Curts LUV-1 blank. Looked on EBay and found some inexpensive blanks, ordered two of them. Stay tuned!!!! Gary

Jamister,
Does the new key work all your locks and tailgate?
Thanks for posting.

Yes my one key works ignition, doors and tailgate. I don't have a locking fuel door. The key that I had made for it was pretty flimsy and "ugly". The type is a Ilco T61F. These are just my spares, you can see the first one is starting to crack after only a couple years of use. I was turning it in my tailgate pretty hard for the rear window.

I bought a NOS ignition cylinder including three sweet keys for my 1969 FJ55 from Toyota Matt at Vintage Teq Parts. He has some really good stuff in his site.

Good info! And I second the key history!
The small door keys are hard ones to find!
I ordered 2 of each key blank- ignition and doors, oem from Japan on ebay...and waited 5 weeks to get them. $14 each. They are chrome/brass core originals.
They are correct. I took them to a reputable lock smith shop (Englewood Lock and key) for cutting. Worked like a charm. Here's what I did...to start.
- Get key code for doors on cylinder- passenger side tumbler, and ignition code on assemble.
-find keys on web- I've seen some in Philippines as well as Japan. None state side- I realized I have to go where the cruisers are still on the road everyday, or where they originated and they have mass parts still....
- find a real lock smith to do the work...give them the codes. Toyota used to be able to make keys from the code, showing the registration of ownership...not for old iron any longer...
Hope this helps!

This is the one I was looking for...

Oh man those original door and tailgate keys would be so nice. I have a TR27 blank which is OK but not at the same level of cool. My NOS ignition and three keys are sure nice though. With the TR27 blanks I now have the same key for both doors and the tailgate. Local locksmith redid my tailgate window key lock so it was the same as the doors.
