Need info: 'Trans-America-Trail'. Colorado over to Oregon

This is supposed to run between North Carolina to Oregon. We need info from Colorado over to Oregon.

From what I understand, at one time it was a motorcycle trail only. I've heard now that it can be done in a 4X. We live in the California Easter Sierra and are thinking of doing this from Colorado on over the the trails end in Oregon.

The problem we are running into is that the trail is not well known and it's difficult to find info. Any help will be much appreciated. Info such as:

A) where in Colorado can we get on this 'trail' ?
B) how 'rugged' is the 'trail' ?
C) what can we expect and what should we prepare for ?

We will have 3 rigs, well equipped, pretty experienced, no wives, kids,or dogs. Self contained and sleeping in our rigs.

The track is very well known if you purchase it. It was never limited to MC there is just where it started.
You need to wait until the passes are open to get through CO on the track. MC guys normally start around the middle of June.
Sam the originator of the TAT spent a ton of time mapping the 4800 miles out, why not purchase the track HERE?

Right now we are just in the planning stage and trying to learn as much as possible about the TAT before we go out and spend $300 on the maps. I appreciate that he has a bunch of time AND $$ invested and the maps will be a necessity at some point...just trying to learn as much as possible while getting to that point. The website you sent will be a big help. Looks like a great trip.

There's always something, while researching this trip we ran across another interesting one (sourced it from Overland Journal). The CDE trip that starts in Bisbee, Az. & ends up in Montana. Same 3 guys, thinking about doing that one on our own...and not paying them $7k. Wow !
