HEY Guys!

Can’t seem to get the old gal to stay running. Just got the truck a few days ago and it was a purring kitten. Now I go to start and I get immediate shutdown right after it starts. Full gas tank, starter is working fine, cranks and has in second of strarting - then dies.
Also need to know where to get fender flares, roof rack and rear ladder.

Comments?

If you had written Diesel instead if Gas I would say it's the vacuum shut-off valve.
I don't know 'bout them gas motors.

Welcome!

I'm guessing FJ70 is a 3F carbureted?

Sounds like you aren't getting enough fuel.
Does it run on or sputter and die? or more like you turned a key off?

Will it start right back up?

Sounds almost like a stuck float bowl not filling with fuel, or possibly failing fuel pump.

Welcome!

What's the engine and can you post a video of what exactly is happening?
It’s a 3F. I confirmed that I’m getting fuel and spark to the plugs. Working on the video. I’ll take a pic of the coil area. Lots of splicing in the wiring. I’m going to replace the coil since the wire was very corroded. Going to get a new cap and rotor too. Do you know where parts would be sourced? Thank you so much for the comments.

Hello,

Welcome to the madness.

Check your vacuum lines and your carburetor.

Chances are your accelerator cable needs replacement as well.

It is a carb 3F. Just like a key turned off. Maybe a fuse? Cranks fine and starts just for a second - then dead.

Here's an option for a platform rack:

And another for racks/ladders:

Nice new rig, hope you get it up and sorted soon!
Thanks!!

Grayfj62turd,

Im no expert but I’d check these.....

1. Replace the fuel filter...never hurts.
2. Does the 3F have a Fuel Pressure Regulator ?
3. Carb mixture setting and idle setting
4. Timing set correctly

if this came from South America recently the carb probably needs a rebuild. I took a chance on an eBay China carb while mine is being rebuilt and it runs perfect !!! $90 could save you a lot of headaches and time.

Yes 3F with a carb. I checked fuel - fine. Spark to all plugs - fine. I’m going to change out the coil, Cap, rotor, plugs and wires. Now I just need to find a source for the parts?? Any ideas?

Where would I find a service manual and parts for this thing?
You really appreciate the info! Already ordered a crap load!

Thank you ALL for your help. I found the problem why she just stopped starting...... someone put a kill switch in the front seat belt receptacles. I saw a belt less buckle inserted and thought it was odd. So I took it out and put it in the glove box. I get a call a few days later from LAND cruiser specialists in Austin and they inform of the little trick the PO had for me. And no, the PO didn’t tell me a thing. Gotta luv these PO'S

Sneaky but effective
