hi folk... bula from Fiji Islands... :D

i need the opinion of the prado community on my potential next vehicle...

i have seen a 1996 LJ95 Prado with a 3L diesel engine and manual transmission.

the vehicle is in pristine condition i.e. very clean in and out with 118,000km on the clock..... BUT the vehicle smokes a bit under accleration....

the owner said that it may be because the vehicle is parked upto 6months at a time... Can this be so??

the vehicle apart from that is rattle free and as i said bloody damn clean.....

would appreciate any and all advice....

I would maybe go to a mechanic and have him check it out. Diesel cars due tend to smoke a little bit under acceleration, but just to be safe I would have a mechanic look over the car before you purchase it.

car checked by mechanic, it has full service history with the dealer.........

Iam going off on a 800km drive tomorrow to get it ........

got the vehicle.... the smoke issue was because of clogged air-cleaner.... got the engine flushed and all new filters fitted.... runs like new now..... :)

Hi !

I own a KJ 95 from 3 years, by now....very good trucks but still have some weak parts, as far as I learned working at my truck...Mine had following problems :

1) the steering box : seems this is one problem at KJ 90-95. Parts for fixing the steering box are expensive, here in Romania,at lest...It seems that the rubber fixing parts of the steering box had to be replaced, the previous owner didn't so I had to replace them all....Including the steering box.

2) lower arm bushing....Maybe they got old...But I have to put new bushing there....

As far as now, I was't able to found an technical manual for LC KJ95....

Recently changed all oils on KJ 95, incl gearbox, diff. oil, engine oil, brake fluid.....From now on I'll use CASTROL EDGE 5w 40 for engine.

If any of my experience in fixing KJ 95 is useful please feel free to ask....

Congrats on the your Prado Bula.. What are your plans for it????

Bula Vinaka to you as well buddy............ yes i do have plans for the rig... want a turbo kit for a sluggish 3L diesel motor followed by lift kit, diff-lockers, snorkel and bigger off-road wheels.....:steer:
