Hello!

I am going against all advice I've read online and buying a 100 series as a daily driver as single male living in LA with no wrenching skills
Was hoping folks could chime in on if this might be a fair deal. Seems the market is really tough right now. This would be my max budget and is modded exactly how I would want.
OR my alternative option is a clean 2003 LX470 w/ 150k miles for $17,000. But it has a dent on the front left fender and I'm pretty attached to the VVTI years having owned a 2007 v8 4unner in the past.

Price; $25,000
-2006 LX 470 w/ 170k miles
-It's had 4 owners but has been serviced regularly (37 records) at Lexus in Southern CA up until 2023.
-See maintenance / mods list below. I will reply in a separate post with additional photos.
-Undercarriage is one of the best I've seen

He says he didn't keep receipts because he never planned to sell and it was going to be his weekend truck, but does have a maintenance book logging the work / date he completed each item. Said he does not trust any mechanics or dealerships and did all work himself. He ended up buying a large trailer home and is now using a heavy duty truck to tow it, is very sad to sell LX but wife is insistent. I met him in person and he explained every square inch of the vehicle to me and pointed out every small nick and flaw (there weren't many).

Fair to assume that the cost for all the parts/labor he did would be $5,000-10,000 at a reputable shop? Maybe even more?
His words:
"This was mostly preventative maintenance with the exception of the antenna, steering wheel motor and front seats. There was nothing wrong with the parts I replaced, just didn’t want to deal with them later. I still have running boards, wheels and 3rd row seats. Engine splash shields. Fuel lines and gas tank have been heat shielded."

It looks like a really nice rig and im sure it'll go another 100k with out much issues. With that said thats very very high price. Can get a really clean LC(hold value way more) for prob 20k

I have an '06 LX470 in LA. & have used it as a daily driver. It will cost you depending on your commute. I take the bus now most days. I've seen that car online, consider why has it been up there so long? That said tons of maintenance records (critical) & some nice upgrades, super clean undercarriage & nice color & interior. I bought mine on the cheap, few records, I haven't done 1/2 of what they've done but initial investment & maintenance I've done so far, my investment is fast approaching that $25k. The '06 & '07 are the pinnacle of the 470's mainly becuase of the 275HP VVTI engine, but many updates in '03 also. Slee automotive has a nice guide on buying 100 series. One thing I would check is each body part has a vin sticker make sure they all match. If all you are doing is daily commute & not camping or off roading I'd consider a GX you can get a much newer one for that price.

Thanks for the reply! He said he can provide the undercarriage cover, but he removed it because it was "pointless" for a car not in the rust belt and would trap heat if anything.

I work from home 3 days per week and commute from Los Feliz to Playa Vista 2 days. So not terrible.

I'm guessing the vehicle has been listed for a while because the list price still shows $28,000 and he was likely firm at that price trying to recoup all the work he did early on. That paired with lack of receipts is enough to scare away buyers that might otherwise pay top dollar.

Apart from a daily driver, I absolutely plan to use this a camping/off road trip vehicle.
I considered the GX470, but styling kills me. After selling my V8 4runner which I loved (had to sell because of electric gremlins) I've owned a GX 460 which I found to have poor visibility and bad throttle response compared to the 2UZFE. Was also hideous. I am now in a 2021 TRD Off Road premium 4runner. It feels gutless and soulless and has a horrific turn radius. The car payments are also insane. And you see them on every street corner. Feels like the days of scoring a clean 100 series to keep for life are numbered and I don't wanna miss the boat. I'd be on my death bed regretting never having sat on the tailgate of my own land cruiser.

I'm banking on the 100 series curing my vehicle ADHD as I've read it has for many others. At 6'2 with a long torso, I grew up driving Suburbans and Tahoes, so the king of the road visibility and comfort for road trips with the pals is something I really value. I would go back to the v8 4runner but my body would hurt on any drive over an hour.

Everything I'm seeing is 27k+ and there are like 2 examples.
Then some clean ones for like 20-23k but those have 220k+ miles.

Clean vehicle. I think the price is high I would think closer to $18K. But if it’s your white whale I’d go $20K.

Looks nice price to high if your not willing to do any work unless your rich buy a new car any old car will need work at some point and shop rates are crazy

I was closing in on a mint 2004 LX with 164k miles for $18,000 but someone sniped it before I could.

Now I’ve found a 2007 LC with 200k miles for $19k. PPI tomorrow morning and hoping she comes back clean!!
