I'm not even sure what to search for this. I have my whole tub off of the frame and need to gain access to the bottom side to de rust clean the sheet for patches and general clean up. My question is, will the side of the tub support its own weight? I realize that the rear of the tub is wider than the cowl area, and I plan to support that area with wood so all the weight isn't on the tub sides.
I have seen tubs sitting up on the rear end, but I have already cut out some rusted areas, in the corner radius and the c-channel and I am afraid that the weight back there will bend the non supported quarters.
Would just stacking one side up on wood be a better option than full on its side? I just don't want to sand and flap disc on my back under the body.

Any other ideas (besides lifting it with a ceiling hoist, cause i don't have one) are appreciated.

If you have a couple buddies, flip it over on some horses. Completely upsidedown is the best way in your situation.

I set my tub on it's side and back by setting a couple of 2x4s on the ground and setting the tub on them.

The tub is pretty tough and setting it on wood didn't do any damage.

Like thecrazygreek said upside down on horses is about the most stable way to work on and paint the tub.

Advice taken... so far so good.
Thanks.
