need a new T-max controller

Some crack-head broke into my cruiser last summer and stole my Trail Team recovery gear bag. I lost shackles, a tow strap, gloves, winch controller, the bag and some other miscelaneous items in the cruiser.

I would really like to replace the Toyota Trail Team Bag- (hint hint.... if anyone has one!)

More importantly I NEED to replace the handheld controller. I thought about replacing with the wireless unit, but I like handhelds better. Besides, the wireless unit is about $90.

Point being- I can't find anyone selling the handheld remotes anymore, only the wireless. If anyone knows (or IS) a T-maxx dealer I'd appreciate a point in the right direction.
 
can't help you with the OEM part, but isn't this nothing more than a couple of switches that you could whip up in no time?

Maybe if I were someone who had a clue about electronical doo-hicky thing-a-ma-bob's.

I know there's a diagram on slee's site that requires relays and such...

I doubt there are any relays involved since the handheld control is intended to control the real relays in the winch controller box. So typically the handheld should be nothing more than a couple of 50c lightweight switches and a few feet of wiring. Most difficult part may be to obtain or build a connector that will fit the winchtop box.

But maybe just the right kind of task to start learning about electric (not even electronics) doohickys...?

The T-Max controllers are crappy anyway! Order up a heavy duty one from Northern Tool and move on! Thieves suck!
 
Can you just randomly purchase a replacement controller like that? Isnt' the plug end winch specific?

(I really don't know, I'm just askin' here...)
 
Just bouncing ideas here........

If I remember what I saw when I tore into mine, there are 3 wires in the remote - one for input power, the other two for energizing the directional solenoids. Is there any reason that one can't simply use a 3-prong home appliance cord? Mount the outlet at the winch control box, seal it up as much as one feels is needed (it's not like the winch control is waterproof anyway) and then be able to simply plug into it when needed. For the other end with the switch, it wouldn't take too much to fab a small box to mount a rocker switch in. If one doesn't care about pretty, a plain old electrical junction box would work. Or, the winch controls mentioned above at Northern Tool could be used - I found one for about $35 - and splice the 3-prong plug on the end.

But do all the remotes use the same plug at the terminal end? Sure, you can buy the northern tool remote- but will it plug into my T-max control box?
 
No, it doesn't appear that it will. What I'm saying is that we can put whatever plug we want on the end with a matching socket at the winch control box. Just cut the old one off and install whatever......

Thinking to myself on the way home, a residential outlet probably won't work. But a 4-pin trailer plug will. In fact, I may have that laying around here somewhere.........

Actually, the T-max's already have a 4 pin trailer plug inside the control box- it's T-max's hook up for their wireless system. You may be onto something here Tony....
 
I didn't see such a thing anywhere on mine. I was envisioning a 4-pin round plug as I think we can mount it flush in the control box cover and it will have a spring loaded cover on it. I'll do some digging today and see what I can find around here.

Have you given any thought to in-cab controls? If we are in there rewiring it would be easy to accommodate something like this at the same time. I'm thinking strongly about doing the same thing with mine. 12voltguy.com has some nice winch control panels just for this purpose. We can duplicate something like that for way less though.....

If you don't want to have to figure out the wiring (not very difficult), I would order an in cab control from 12voltguy.com .

I have never, ever, needed to control my winch from anywhere but in the cab.

Stay away from cheap remotes. I had a friend burn up solenoids and a winch motor on his milemarker and nearly had a very dangerous situation because the cheap milemarker remote got stuck in the "In" position.

I had originally looked on summit for that controller- and couldn't find it! Either they were out of stock at the time and got more in now- or I suk at the interwebs.
 
Well, I'll be........you still going to want to set up an interior control?

I also noticed that Summit didn't have their winch anymore. I had to find my T-Max somewhere else. Oh well....
