post #1, just me being not funny
found the new one
;p;p;p
sorry I am pissed,
oh yeah

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY

I think Rick deleted his posts.

I think this discussion should continue though.
These are all important opinions that need to be voiced.
This can also act as an educational thread to those who are new to our hobby/sport that may be unaware as some of the obstacles we face being offroad enthusiasts not just here in New England but nation wide.

I am going to buy a cheap house in swanzey and set up a drive thru car wash/lemonade/cold beer stand, no brainer!
with a yard sale, nice tool box, BTW!
bet those gas station owners hate us too...

I feel so free(ky)

sorry cant stop

I have been to the gas station, hardware store in madison, the post office, the Community market, and the local NAPA in last two days here in my town, Madison.
Everywhere, some person knew and or saw or actually interacted with a member of our group, and was genuinely interested or at least supportive.
Two of my non cruiser friends saw groups or single vehicles coming in and leaving and were psyched to tell me.......
no one has complained, not one
just sayin
:):)

that's great Kina.

But lets say you decide to invite the NEA over for a couple of events. The events get some attention and they start grouping in size to the point where you branch out the roads used beyond the ones close by.

As time goes on renegade clubs have a member join the NEA so they can scout out the trails for their own purposes. This now brings in an element that is not affiliated with a known club so they do have some immunity as to how they conduct themselves and the choices they make.

So now you might have 3 or 4 actual events that are no longer contained to a relatively small area and in between those times renegade groups doing who knows what like throwing trash out on the trails, trail braiding, being destructive to private property along the trails, ect... coming in.

How long do you think your neighbors are going to stand for that?

I'm thinking they would first talk to you about the situation. I'm sure you would talk with all the clubs involved and those clubs would make a concerned effort to rectify the situation..

But how do you go about dealing with the renegades? How do you get them to stop what they are doing when you have no idea who they are. Or if you do have an idea they deny it and don't care.

And since you can't stop them the crap continues to happen and the towns people see it as you don't care, you don't respect them and you will not stop.

And you explain to them until you are blue in the face that it isn't you but it doesn't matter. They just want it to end and will do anything to see that happen.

So now there are trail closures in Madison.

Nothing more to say

Let the next person drive 192 miles and leave @ 7 a.m. and get home @ 5 that day. Then try and be constructive and relay all that information into their Club so everyone knows what's going on!
I officially rescind my obligation to being the "Yankee Toys" Delegate for the NEA.
Bob, you will need a new volunteer.
Good luck,
Rick Smith

I will notify the NEA, ;) (completed task)

I don't think anyone is upset with you Rick.

I certainly wasn't upset and I appreciate not only you sacrificing a Saturday to serve our club but also sparking this conversation.

I have said it before that we are an opinionated club and we are never going to see eye to eye on everything but I believe a topic like this has no clear and definitive resolution.

It's important that we don't take comments from others that don't agree with our opinions personally.

One thing I have learned here Is to have tough skin, keep your head down and move forward and always keep on trucking.

you have my utmost respect for stepping in there, truth
I am with the team , just sayin its a free world(?)
do note where I wheel at FG etc
itchin to get back to wambuses
tell me to shut up:meh:

we have cops in madison, they have a four wheeler and use it
esp when complaints:meh:

and my last response to Kina was just to illustrate my thoughts on what I've perceived to be happening in areas that I've been to.

It wasn't meant to be argumentative but more of an illustration of how I've seen things progress from OK to nasty by no fault of responsible wheelers.

This thread seems to be going all over the place on different topics, but I will post up for you guys what was and is going on with the swanzey/troy property.

For the last year, I have got involved with the town of troy, fish and game, troy police, the troy selectmen, the representative for the private land owners and the upset home owners (theres only 2) that live at two of the entrances to the class 6's that get you to the trails.
The issue out there, wasn't so much the noise coming from the tires and exhaust that got everyone upset, it was the over usage and the high traffic that was going out there 24 hours a day and seven days a week. I was even blown away with the numbers, once I got more of the details.
The traffic was from the clubs and then from there members bringing up friends after a run the following weekends, but there was also a lot of traffic from the locals too.
The clubs became the target (just like other times) because the locals kids where flying in and out of there at all times of the day and night pissing off the home owners, so when a responsible club would show up going 5 to 10mph past there house, it was easy for the home owners to stop, blame and yell at them for everything. But I will say, now that we stopped using that area for the last year and we have also shown them how responsible and respectful our clubs are to the town, the people and the sport, they are more open to us and our usage of that area. And also realize that a big part of the problem was from the locals.

So a long story short, as of this week the troy/swanzey are is now open.
But there are some new rules and requirements now to help prevent over usages.

--There is a total of 20 trail passes a day that can be issued out, these day passes must be on you when you run out there. There is a website to get these passes but until that and other things get more organized the land rep ask me to not give out a link to that site. If a club like YT wants to do a run they will have to organize it through Jay, Scott Hatch, or me if you where going out there through my club.
This is only temporary, like I mentioned til things get more organized, then anyone will be able to down load a pass.

---You must have an NH OHRV sticker even if it's a registered vehicle, this is per the land owners. I didn't know this, but when you buy one of these stickers your also buying insurance from the state that helps protect the land owners, if something was to happen.

The OHRV sticker seems to be getting people upset, which I don't understand. We spend thousands of dollars on our rigs to wheel ( tires, lifts, skids. winches, etc) so to pay $55 a year to be able to use all that stuff is nothing, in my opinion.

It seems like an endless battle that we always have to do to keep our sport open. Despite that though, the sport is growing and because of all of us it's becoming more excepted and respected.

welcome to New Massahampshire

lets limit the number of vehicles allowed on a public way AND tax them extra
:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

I do however subscribe to what has been mentioned on the OHRV state protection...will check it out

The ohrv stickers and passes are for the private property only, again this is what the land owners wanted.
All the class 6's that run through that area are still open to the public and have never closed.
You have to keep in mind to this whole area is open to dirt bikes, atv's, hikers and horses, the section we use for the trucks is only a small portion of the property. So limiting numbers is becoming necessary.
And if things go well this year with the new system it may open up another 300-400 acres they lost years ago. So at first glance this may seem like it sucks, but over all and in the long run this may be the best thing that happened to the sport.

I forgot to mention to there is a back way into the property, a class 6 in swanzey that we will be using instead of the other ways we used in the past. There are no angry residents or anti 4x4 people living on this road and it has better parking at the end for trailers.

well that is a bit more succinct, or at least somewhat less unclear
so 20 passes total or per property
any links to the ohrv stuff, must be fish and game...?
will this be part of the Little Monadnock Family Trails?
thanks Chris

I'm glad that we were able to make some headway with the owners. In general it's not easy to change someone's mind once it is made up and the sacrifice of not wheeling the area seems to have paid off.

Kudos to those who orchestrated that!!!

Troy is where all the big complainers are. Most of the other clubs decide to enter
the property thru there. Coming in from Richmond there is only one house on the road.
Swanzey has a couple different ways to get to the trail. Rotate where you go in makes
it look less used.

When ever i've been a trail leader we have always gone in from Swanzey.
Was NEA ever going to let us know about these changes?
