Mystery to Me Wires? Belt? (2 Viewers)

1997 Land Cruiser 40th. Truck wouldn't start. Not too unusual. A battery disconnect for 10 mins. almost always works. Not this time. Opened hood and saw wire? belt? (photo 1) wrapped around fan attachment. Untangled it. Set it aside, and it started up fine. But what's going on? What is it? Itoo two photos of the belts near the fan. Can anyone see what's happened here?

You lost a belt - should be 2 of them in parallel. The bottom one in your pic is the AC. The other one has a mate - and that mate is the disintegrated mess you discovered.

Lack of maintenance....

Can't do anything with it where it is. Is it OK for a 10 mile drive?

Fine to drive for 10 miles.
Good thing there are 2 belts.
Replace them as a pair, they are a matched set.

As stated ^, they come as a matched pair.

Amazon product ASIN B004SL5JB2 is the pair you want - source from your favourite supplier etc.

And, you should replace the AC belt at the same time...
