My Observations with BFG MT KM2 315/75-16 and stock gears

If you are referring to a 315 spare, it can be done, but it hangs down considerably. Definitely not something you would want to drive around with on a regular basis unless you stuck a really skinny 315 under there as your spare, which some people have done.

I guess that's my dilemma because I want to step up to the 315's but would prefer to keep the spare in the stock location. I currently have my 285 spare there and don't mind it being there. I wonder how much lower a 315 hangs vs a 285. I like the look of not having a spare tire hanging off the back bumper and the convenience of not having to swing it out of the way to open the hatch/tailgate. I don't want to put it inside either; too much gear in there already.

315mm = 12.4" wide. 315mm x 75%= 236.25mm. 236.25mm x 2 = 472.5mm. 472.5mm/ 25.4mm = 18.6". 18.6" + 16" = 34.6".

Width= 12.4"
OD= 34.6"

I wish I would have taken a pic. It hangs lower thank you'd think because it didn't sit as square as the 285. It was a hideous temporary solution for a about 2 months until by bumper arrived. It also rubbed on the pan hard bar. Check out what blarsen did if you don't want the expense of a carrier or lose cargo space. He found a really skinny interco ~35 or 36" tire that sits higher up than a standard 285. He uses it for emergencies only.

How is the snow handling with these? I'm looking at 33" BFG KM2's, specifically for a truck that's headed to Colorado as a snow/ ice vehicle- Of course I'll have chains, but what's the verdict?

I'm looking at the BFG KM2 or the cooper stt's. Any experience from anyone that has run both? The KM2's are about $70/tire more than the Cooper STT.

thanks for the insight

when i bought my truck the guy gave me two brand new km2s for $300, i am just trying to figur out what to do now. maybe a slim spare for the undercarrage is the way to go as i don;t have the money for a rear tire carrier and cant fit it inside.
