My Observations with BFG MT KM2 315/75-16 and stock gears

This has probably been discussed before but what are peoples thoughts with 315's on the standard OME 2.5" lift vs the 315's using J springs...Also how much taller of a lift do you get with J's versus the OME 2.5???

I have 285's right now and am really on the fence about getting 285's again or 305's or 315's....i really do not want to change gears though, but slow does not really bother me...

I am running the 315's w/Js and Heavies all around. So far, so good...i have ran 1500 miles and over some nasty, steep and jagged rocks at Disney, OK and they have performed well. One of the tires is chunking a small amount, but i think any tire would have done this due to the speed (forgot i wasn't wasn't locked :bang:) i ran them while stuck on a steep incline. They are a little loud, but they're mud's and great looking ones at that :D

kpudden, are you running coil spacer's in front? it dosent appear to have too much stinkbug look..,

also, are you running the stock front drive shaft? what other mods are you running?

Many many discussions of this. You should really do a quick search and read a few, but the short answer is:

"yes and no, maybe"

You will rub in various places when the tire is stuffed in the wheel well. The details of the tire dimensions make a difference too.

Yup, running 1" spacers up front...as luck has it, they havent seated all the way yet, i bet i am getting 1.5" total up front

no drive shaft mod yet...still running stock gears for now. Stainless brake line extenders and diff breather done while lifting. I am quite pleased with the handling on/off road...i expect it will be better once i load a winch up front :)

Edit: one thing i do not like is my braking; offroad on inclines i have to mash the brakes and gear down to keep from falling off the slope...not sure if this is common, but i don't feel too safe when going downhill.

Normal with 35" tyres and stock 4.10 gearing. 4.88's help a bunch. 5.29's would be even better for compression braking.

I am confused... I thought 315's were 35" tires. I bought a set today and they are barely 34". I got 315/75R16's.

I just thought I was not getting what I paid for as I was under the impression the 315's were 35's

BFG MT KM2's

Hmmm... that says 34.8 for my tire :hhmm:

Maybe my measuring tape is wrong :hillbilly:

Probably not, most tires don't measure to spec. By my measuring tape BFG's run on the small side. Comes in handy when trying to fit larger tires, they fit where most other brands would rub.

Spare in Stock Location?

Brett,
Just wondering if you were able to stuff the spare in the stock location as I didn't see an aftermarket bumper with spare tire carrier in your pic.

Maybe they take the measurements they publish in their website with the tire mounted in the wheel and with the right pressure but still unmounted in the car.

That 0.6" lost from the specs to your measurement may be due to the compression due to the weight of the car.

Anyway, it's interesting to find out that the BF Goodrich run on the small side. I'm reluctant to go 35" and besides, I won't pass the inspection with a size bigger than 285/75/16 (unless I pay for an engineering project, but that's another story).

But when I worn out my BF Goodrich A/T 285/75/16 I could use the same size in another brand that is more on the big side and keep being legal.

Any suggestion ons brands that tend to go bigger than spec?

If you are referring to a 315 spare, it can be done, but it hangs down considerably. Definitely not something you would want to drive around with on a regular basis unless you stuck a really skinny 315 under there as your spare, which some people have done.
