Well, if there was one good thing about my accident, it was this. The extra money left over from the insurance helped out with this bad boy!

Hypertherm Powermax 45!

Can severe up to 1" and also its machine ready (which means if I ever strike it rich I can hook it up to a torchmate.) I put my blackberry next to it to show really how small this unit is. Only weighs about 32lbs too.

bye bye black coal mine garage from a day of using cut off wheels!!!

Oooooooo! Das NIIIZE!!!!
How much was that???? I've got the cheeaapie northern tool one. It works okay though, but the ability to cut one inch steel.... That would be awesome.

too much...

1751 out the door. The s***ty part is that the prices went UP within the last two weeks! I called Praxair 3 weeks ago for a quote, but they said there's nothing they could do about it.

Found it for cheaper on the net, but its covered by Praxair for 3 years. Cant get that buying online, and I like to support that shops cause theyve always been good to me when I come in.

Good deal Matt!

Nice ! I sure wish I had one of those, because I just burned through a few cut off wheels making frame reinforcement plates for my PS mod.

Freakin' sweet. Yep, I will be visiting you when I get ready to start the chevy sliders.

The price we pay for this EXPENSIVE ASS ADDICTION!!!!!
I got a NEW plasma from NT under their warranty. Mine crapped out and they just shipped me a new one. That warranty is nice to have for sure.

yup, but hopefully this will save me lots of $$$ in the long run!

I'm just glad it will be easier on me. The noise, and dust/metal filings you breath in with the grinder can be pretty harsh. This will keep the noise and shop clean!

I used this bad boy for the first time today. WOW!!! Simple as can be, and its literally like cutting through paper! Doesn't even phase it with 3/16" and 1/4" plate!

Well...I've learned if you plan to really use a tool to buy the best you can afford the first time...cry once. Other than the tools that are one or two use for me I've cried twice way too often after buying said tool that wasn't really designed for more than a few real usages and had it fail all too soon. Not to mention how much better, typically, a real tool is to operate...

Nice addition there Matt. You might get it to pay for itself with some jobs here and there

LOL...Not in THIS crowd!!!
This is the cheapest crew around. Might be able to squeeze a case of beer out somewhere, but other than that...Karma points.:D

Congrats Matt. I have that same unit and really like it.

thanks Jereme!

question.... what compressor are you running and whats the CFM @90psi? I keep reading that 6.0 (what the manual says for minimum) is not enough. At the same time, all the compressors I look at that are 6.0CFM and up are 220v. I need to keep it 110...

The old compressor I have is 6.9CFM @90, but the regulators dont work like they should and its so obnoxiously loud that theres no way I can use it without making the neighbors (with a baby) mad.

I figure I can make small runs with a 30 gal 6.0CFM compressor, but i'm not sure if that means a 6" cut or a 2-3' cut.

I have a 6 horsepower 150 p.s.i. with a 30 gallon tank and quite honestly it leaves a little to be desired. One day I'll step up to a Quincy, but until then I'll keep what I have.

We used to have a Quincy shop on Greg st. I went in a year or two ago and inquired about one for my house. The salesman actually tried talking me out of it, saying it was too much for the home user. My dad laughed and said "It sounds perfect."

I once heard a mechanic say if a compressor had wheels it was to small.

I see... The problem I'm running into is the 220v. I have seen many 60gal units that are at a decent price, but they all run on 220 and I cant use that. I have one outlet in the garage for the welders and plasma, and thats it. THe compressor needs to run off 110. Looks like i'll just have to settle for a smaller compressor for now.

Sounds like it might be worth paying to have an addtional 220 outlet installed. I don't think you will find a 110 compressor that will keep up.

Jack

220V. Do it. You'll never regret it. Other than wanting more tools in 220V. :D
