Awning came off a 1968 grumman step van,the thing is in excellent condition, just need to make the sides for it.....How do you like the westy top....We can sleep on top or inside the rig.

more pics, James! I dig it. I'd like to see your westy top down and inside. Here's a pic of mine on the way to yellowstone this summer.

Yours is very nice indeed, I can not get in mine from inside the troopie. I have another hinge,so in the future I may install that and just add more canvas to the front side and have more room in it... If I close mine all you can really see is the westy fiberglass top, but it looks at home there..I would like to see the pics of yours on the inside.

James, pics are coming. I took some, but apparently I can't even operate an automatic camera--they were all out of focus.

What is the length and width of that westy top?

length is 100inches,and width is about 55inches.

Here you go, James, a few pics of the inside. I removed one of the two cabinets--it was for the stove and storage, but I don't think I'll do much cooking inside. The cabinet still inside was originally on the other side; it houses the sink with storage underneath and used to house a fridge. I just bought an ARB fridge/freezer that sits on the fender on the right side--you can put a bunch of crap in those when you are stacking it, not as much when the door opens on the side. Plus it's more efficient than the old one in this rig and it was for Australian 240V, not our 120V. Water tank for the sink is under the fender in front of the wheel, you can see some of the water hose for the filler in one of the pics. I have a tank for each side, but can't fit the other one because of my long ranger fuel tank.

The bunk consists of the overhead console and 3 vinyl-covered plywood slats that store in the rear and lay out when in use; gives about a 6' bed and we use therma-rests with our sleeping bags. Only the front section of jump seats was used and the table and another board span between the seats for the kiddies to sleep on. It's about 4.5' wide, so when they get older it will be a problem.

With the top up, I have 69" of standing room floor to roof.

Thanks for the pics, that is the way to go but I just can't seem to get myself to cut the roof.... But I have no problem cutting the roof on the 60. Sourced a cool VW top that is fiberglass, just waiting for the guy to get back to me with a price for the vehicle. I like that you can sit in the back of yours if you want to have a nice cup of tea,and some breakfast...Also looks to be real nice in crappy weather at least you can do things like read or play games or whatever.......The more you see of other peoples rigs the more ideas you get. It really is never ending. I just want to get in mine and go and not stop for at least 6months. Have to keep dreaming for now......unless....bad idea,I want to be retireing in 20 years not just getting out of prison.......

That must of been and excellent adventure with the family. Well at least you went instead of dreaming about it..... Things I need for sure are power steering and I would like a little lift, actually a SOA would be great..... Right now I am adding a battery isolater,on the duel batterys. And shortened the awning about a foot or so,it was way to big.. Still haven't thought of a way to make it work yet..... Winter is around the corner and spend all my free time snowboarding, dont' really think about the cruiser much then.....finally peace,

Emma and I did the same trip in Patches which David and Ashleigh did, except we went up to Glacier. After getting to know David's rig, I have to say that the pop top is the way to go. Patches' high roof is not bad, but I'd take a pop top over my 12" of non-movable roof any time.

I've thought about putting a Westfalia top on Patches, but living 14,000 miles away from it has put a real damper on projects for now.....

I say cut the top James. If you think you can mate it up so it does not leak, I reckon that would be the way to go. You've already got that great camper interior; what a combo that would be.
