So you plan to off road this beauty?

Man, I just don't think I would have the guts to do that!

Absolutely stunning, one of a kind vehicle. Blows my mind.

jealousy doesn't even begin to describe what i'm feeling. congrats!
how long from order to pick up?

Thanks.

Aside from Toyota OEM - I believe they're all a combo of custom & something else.

But honestly,... I don't know all the specifics yet.

Cheers!

I googled it. :) Looks like you get Dana axles (assume 60 in the rear and 44 in the front).

Thanks Pierps.

I live in the PNW, & aside from just driving it around, I plan to use it for trail runs & off-road travel/camping.

I won't be using it for rock crawling - Mainly exploring old growth timber trails, FS roads & other off-road stuff.

At some point - I would like do trip to Moab.

They usually take about 6 months.

Mine will take longer - about 9 months.

The main reasons being; it's a hardtop,... some custom installs (HAM, GPS, tow package),... custom color,... scheduling issues (they were slammed w/ business during the heart of my build),... & finally - I've kept adding other options (roof rack, slide bars, skid plate, etc)

Hey pavie - Thanks!

All good questions, & for the most part - Beyond my purview.

So,... let me preface the following with - I don't know for sure, but this is my rough understanding:

How the process works is - TLC/ICON sells me a dilapidated Toyota FJ40 as a donor vehicle. From this original, legal vehicle, they create the ICON. Very little of the original vehicle remains in the final product. However, this is necessary, in order to classify the vehicle as a restoration. For instance, in my build, only the headlight bezel, bib hinge & vintage registration plate, from the original FJ40 remain.

A similar analogy would be in the home construction/remodeling biz. For example, you can buy an old house & tear it down to the ground,... and as long as you use & retain a certain portion of the original foundation, the rebuild can be consider a remodel,... as apposed to new construction.

Legally, my ICON will be registered as a restored 1971 vehicle.

Most simply put - TLC needs to go about it this way, because it's nearly impossible to become a legal car manufacturer in the US.

Again, all the above is a rough outline from my remedial understanding of the process. However, I do know they (TLC) has done the necessary legal work, to assure it's all above board & legal.

This makes a lot of sense and thanks for the clarification. I currently own a Factory Five Replica Cobra, so I am very familiar with the SPCN process in California. Since ICON is re-using the frame and the original VIN, you are essentially going to register the vehicle as the original. This means your registration and smog requirements are based on the year of the original VIN.

It's interesting to see the difference, since registering a 1970 Toyota landcruiser (my FJ40), and a replica 1965 cobra are very different animals, even though the internal engines and mechanics could be almost exactly the same, from an emissions and cost stand point. Thanks for the clarification!

"Honey, we need to sell the house"

"Why?!?"

"Well..."

Thanks In2cruisers!

It was expensive - I know,.. I've got the receipt in my pocket!

But I liked the ICON,.. could afford one,... So I bought one.

An unexpected pleasure's been,... how great it's been to work with Jonathan & his crew - Wonderful people & very professional. They've made the entire build process easy & alot of fun.

Cheers!

Oh man... beers on me if you're ever in Seattle and bring your rig with you! I promise not to drool on it.

What a build! Impressive weld quality...I really like the tire carrier bumpers on the Icons. I can't find 'em on their main website...so I'm wondering if they only sell them with the Icon ? ?

Can't wait to see more pictures in its natural habitat.....muddy in the PNW!
