I drove a couple hundred miles today with my hubs unlocked, and when I got back home I felt the hubs (stock Aisin hubs) on my 60 and they were hot. Not hot enough to burn my hand, but hot enough that I didn't want to leave my hand on them.

I got far enough in school to learn that a main cause of heat is friction. Are my bearings going south? Do I need a hub rebuild? I am pretty sure that this is not good.

After I finished my front disk conversion, my hubs were hot. It turned out I had bad front pads that were tearing up my rotors.

I would doubt that your problem is so severe, but could the problem be dragging front brakes?

Feel the drum from behind or through the wheel. If it's the brakes, it will be alot hotter than the hub. Or just jack it up and try and spin the wheel.

Good Luck

Normal, they get heated up when braking. i.e. the disk is mounted to the hub, braking heats the disk, disk heats the hub. That's why wheel bearing grease for disk brakes is formulated for higher temps.

Thanks, gentlemen. I always seem to imagine the worst.
