Great work mate love the canopy set up

i gave myself this weekend off work, got the old tin off both upper & lower door frames, then got the flap disc out & removed all the old sikaflex that had been used to hold the old tin sheets on, cut the old T handle inner mount off & moved it up 4" & re welded it in, had to move it because i never allowed for it when i built the sink area and it was hitting on the lower area preventing the door from closing fully, it was easier to move the T handle than it would of been to re do the sink/ kitchen area, then i tacked the lower door frame to the upper door frame so it will now be just a one piece door, just need to remove the whole frame from the canopy now & finish welding it together on both inside & out, I will be able to re skin the door in one sheet of aluminum now & not have the join where the old piano hinge had been in the middle, this will be one less place for dust & water to enter the canopy :)

Lower door frame now tack welded to the upper door frame.I am also going to move the lower gas strut mounts down a little to level out the door when open. the good part of doing this was that the old piano hinge that originally tied the upper and lower door frames together ended up being stainless, so now i will be able to re use that hinge to hang the door replacing the current crusty rusty existing piano hinge the door is currently hanging from :)

sorry about the crappy pics, my phone doesn't like low light conditions. hoping to get this side all finished tomorrow then i can start on the other side, I have found the same door seals as the old perished ones that were on it before i pulled it all apart, they are available on eBay, took me a while to find them as i never knew what they were called :)

had a day off work today so i got a chance to play in my shed, rebuilt the lower drivers side canopy door, modded the top section to accept the window & am in the middle of mounting the mounting plate for the T handle & catches :) hopefully i can get all the welding done & clean up the frame ready to paint tonight :)

finished welding inside & out, flap disk over all the welds then gave it a coat of black paint, T Handle is mounted & working, couple more things to finish off on the canopy....ie rear wheel carrier & jerry can carrier brackets & some other small bits & i will be ready to buy some aluminum sheets, just found out my job for tomorrow has cancelled as the river is flooded so i won't be able to get there until it goes down......more time in the shed for me :)

Schweet!

sort of come to a standstill here atm, the Christmas rush has started & i'm not finding any time for myself to get out to the shed, the joys of working for yourself, hoping to get a week or two off over Christmas, goal is to get it all finished then take a few weeks off around Easter to go & try it all out, then maybe Birdsville around Sep :)
I can only dream :)

Christmas is almost here :) just brought myself a few more early pressies
I have been putting off buying house batteries for a while & every time i am financial enough to get them they are sold out, so this time i got them while they have them in stock,
I brought two 120ah kickass slimline batteries that will fit in the compartment i built at the front of the canopy, I had a few choices but decided on the kickass as they come with the 5 year warranty.

hopefully i will be ordering some Aluminum sheets to skin the canopy over or before Christmas so that i can start getting out & using it, the cruiser has been sitting in the shed to long, i have only done around 240k's since blueslipping & registering it last Dec so i am looking forward to getting out and using it :)

Will you mechanically attach the skin or use adhesive?

Will you mechanically attach the skin or use adhesive?
will be using both, the doors will only have a row of rivets at the top as they have piano hinge & rain gutters, the door seals are riveted from the inside and hold the sheets in place, i will be gluing all sheets to minimize rattles & also seal everything up, i brought a couple of boxes of (Sika Sikaflex 11FC 300ml Cartridges) to glue & seal the sheets.

Nice work

Nice work
Thanks, :) hoping to get it finished over Christmas, been collecting all the final bits needed to finish putting the canopy together, my two x 120ah house batteries and 4 x 60 solar panels turned up this week & i ordered all the aluminum sheet and seals for the doors yesterday so i will have plenty to do over Christmas :)

I'm getting into to solar at the moment with 440 watts solar with fixed and free standing panels also two 100 amp hour battery's. Looking forward to your wiring up of this system so please keep your build coming with plenty of pics. :)

yeah the solar panels & batteries have been the main reason for the delay in finishing off the canopy, i needed to save some dollars to buy them before i could continue :) most of the other wiring is completed, LED lights & switches, Travel buddy oven, fridge power, pumps TV ect, at the moment i have everything running off the battery charger as a source of power while i tested my connections, all lights & accessories are wired through a Narva 12 circuit fuse box I am going to put a cut off switch between the batteries and the main power to the fuse box, all wiring from the Redarc BMS1215S2 has been run & just needs to be connected to the house batteries and start battery, then the solar panels will be wired in parallel to the BMS
I am still researching some of my wiring to see which items i might need to add relays into, i will get plenty of good pics when i start finishing off all the wiring over Christmas, When wiring up my BMS i followed a youtube video & talked to Redarc techs about wire sizes to make sure i was using the correct size wiring,
this is a video i found helpful when running wires for the BMS

One more day of work for the year & i can have a couple of weeks off to play in my shed :) hope the weather is nice, its been high 30's to low 40's Celsius the past few weeks, not fun weather when working in a tin shed, will have to stock the beer fridge up :)

I brought a smaller compressor off eBay for $67, works a treat pumping both front tires up from 10 psi to 32 in just over a minute & a half each, it has a built in flashing led torch as well as the normal led torch setting on the switch, it shuts off automatically when the set pressure is reached, its pretty compact & came in a nice bag with a few other accessories, notable difference in size between the new one & the typhoon one i got from bfc, so now i have a spare small compressors :)
