My HAM and Stereo don't get along, your thoughts

I'm running a YAESU 7800R which has the power directly to the battery (no ignition cable or the like), it is run through to my 2nd aux battery.

My stereo is a Pioneer setup that is full dependant on a 5 channel amp. The headunit runs its ignition wire to the cig. lighter.

MY PROBLEM:

When my stereo is playing and my HAM is on, if I hit the transmit button on the HAM, my speakers make a loud booming sound and the amp signal goes out. the receiver does not go out, but I need to restart the headunit in order to restart the amp which in turn allows for the music to continue.

The stereo equip. is all run off of the primary battery, Ham is off the aux. I can't see where lines might be crossed. I assume there is some sort of feedback situation going on, but after trouble shooting and even changing the startup ignition cable to the amp, I am totally perplexed as to what the issue might be. how is each unit grounded? You mention that your ham has power directly to the battery. Is the ground run directly to the battery as well?

It sounds like RF is getting into the stereo. Try tranmitting on reduced power or relocate your antenna. This happens to the TV in my shack when I transmit into an antenna near the TV. It does not happen to the TV using the same transmitter and my roof mounted antenna.

both the stereo and HAM are grounded to the battery each to a different one.

The HAM base unit is located on the same mount as the amp for the stereo and the antenna is further back towards the back of the rig (5-6ft).

I can try messing with that and seeing if it helps.

Any recommendations as to how far apart they should be?

How is the cable routing? I'm wondering about cross talk. Is the antenna feed routed along the same path as the stereo amp? How about power for the amp or stereo?

needs to be addressed,,,,

most time rf gets into/out of the rig via poopy connections,,,
you know,,the pl259 at the end of the coax,,, and i would look at these,,

My IC7000 will adjust the volume on my stereo - CB does it too. Check your coax line and how it is routed. It is most likely RF leaking or too close to other cabling.
