Good morning everyone. Seeing how wonderful everyone was with @theglobb I figured I'd put it out there that I'm heading to central Illinois from Wilmington NC in my 85 BJ74. It's been running great so don't I anticipate any issue's. I bought it last September.
My Dad passed away yesterday so I need to go help my sister. She's been amazing. I decided to take the land cruiser to help keep my spirits up.
So I'm hoping If I need any help I can reach out. I'm really impressed and honored to have found this forum. I met @theglobb by accident just before he left for his cross country trip. What a great guy!
Thanks in advance!
Brad
Yes it's the BJ74 that @Shes Mad had and I bought off @LukisStyles

Very sorry to hear about your dad. Safe travels.

My condolences to you and your family.

I drove to Illinois last week for an aunt's funeral. There seemed to be construction on every interstate (I24, I57, I74 and I80). Where there was no construction, traffic was moving around 80 mph (even the semi's were running close to 80). Odds are this pace would be too fast for your 74 to maintain for extended periods, so you might be passed a lot. Have a good trip and stay safe.

Hey LD, sorry for your loss, and good on you for commemorating his memory with a Land Cruiser! I am sure it will perform admirably.

And thanks for you and @theglobb for not calling your trips "overlanding". I mean, who made up that word in the first place? Did trip, camping, tour, drive just not cut the mustard? I mean, you could even call it an expedition if you had to... but overlanding? Did someone create a submersible Land Cruiser out there? Because I am pretty sure anything and everything we do with the Land Cruiser is over land.

Have fun on your trip, and reach out if you need anything from your friends here on mud! 😃

Stopped in Chillicothe Ohio for the night. Getting a big ole steak. Truck is running beautifully!

May your father's soul rest in peace with our Lord.
Safe travels mate!

Thank you everyone for the best wishes. I got in yesterday and it's been busy busy. I stopped by Maxgliders who restored broncos. Pretty cool! They liked the land cruiser.
Again than for all the kind words!

Condolences about your father. I just lost my father to pancreatic cancer in May of this year.

Enjoy the trip, that is a fantastic BJ74. I had planned on going and seeing my dad in it, just never made it there. A trip is a trip, doesn't need to be a fancy instagram super vacation at all. Enjoy.

A little update. I'm back in North Carolina. The truck flawlessly made it. Turning heads everywhere. Dad's visitation and ceremony was incredible. He was a huge AA guy. 50 years sober. He was a navy vet during Vietnam. He had a 21 gun salute and my step father is a honor guard bag piper so he played at the ceremony. At least 200 people walked through and told us how he saved their life. He had MS for years and we got a lot of donations for the MS Society too. It was amazing. My wife flew out. And on our way home we stopped at the coffee shop we met at. Then in West Virginia we stopped in Point Pleasant and got a picture of the mothman statue. A good trip and many faces I haven't seen in years. Thanks for all the kind words and morale support. With 2000 miles in the cruiser from this trip I know I can trust her on many more journeys.

Sorry for your loss. I believe you had a good co-pilot on that trip. Godspeed.

Sounds like the best of trips, and time really well spent. Land Cruisers are great, and I love em... but at the core it is really about people. Sounds like your dad realized this and had a profound affect on those he came in touch with.

Glad the cruiser performed really well on this trip and got you and your wife home safe and sound!
