I had a strange thing going on while testing the wiring on the unit. I had a line noise that I ended up tracing down to the battery charger I have hooked up under hood. Weird, never seen that before.
Must be a really bad battery charger or the head unit is has very poor power supply filtering.

It may have something to do with the amp. But for now it sounds great for what I was hoping to accomplish. Hopefully won't have any alternator or fuel pump noise once I get this thing going. :)

Come to think of it I was testing the system without the battery hooked up so it was running straight off of an old Sears 6 amp charger.

So, decided to go with this mounting setup since real estate is at a premium.

Pulled the A-pillar trim and ran the wiring down the side and behind the cluster to go with the radio harness. Used 3M tape to run the wire. Will bundle that with the usb and aux wiring in the dash I’m using and the amp wiring which is next to run on the passenger side of the dash. Redoing my power source for the Garmin as the 5V converter was producing too much noise interference for the radio at the same time.
