I know some of you guys are into watercooled VWs so I thought I would share! Last weekend, Brittney and I picked up this beauty as a new project. It is a 1980 VW Rabbit C Diesel. The previous owner had blown the engine and put it up for sale. He did take the grill, door cards and front seats but everything else is there... Including full coilovers. Not sure on the details of the build yet but I will keep you guys updated in this thread if you would like to follow along: My distraction from the Land Cruiser

Pics of the car the day the motor blew from the previous owner:

And the day we got it:

And just a note about what this car is: 1980 is the last year of the small taillights and the first year for the early "Westy" grill and square headlights. The "C" trim package was a base model car: No sunroof, A/C, etc. Heck, it only has one gauge! The car is pretty much rust and dent free as far as I can see and it is wearing the original "Miami Blue" paint. Hopefully I will have it on the road by this summer!

 nice :)

My first car/pickup I had/learned to drive on was a rabbit pickup, 4spd, but gasser..... same baby blue.

at least you got something slower than the 80 :flipoff2:

my guys emailed this morn and said my bus made it across the pond

283 chevy and a th350. Or are you going to turn it into a FrankenYota 4X4? I drove a gas rabbit many years ago. It was OK I guess but didn't really get the greatest gas mileage for a 4 banger.

The project Helios will hopefully be sold without an engine or trans... It should move that lightweight Bunny around just fine! I'm also thinking about running stand-alone engine management on it. I figure that the Bunny would be a good learning car for Megasquirt.

BTW- The engine in question is a very built 2.0l 16v.

I had a feeling.... :D If Jillian (right?) feels lonely tell her to give me a call... :D

LOL! I will let her know... Currently she needs a headgasket if you're interested. :flipoff2:

TDI..... the obvious choice.. Oh well..

It would be if I was going to daily drive the car but that's not the goal with this one. She will be a sunny day canyon cruiser and she will be entered in the local shows.

My wife (sort of co-owner) just got a tow notice on a vw that her dad bailed on down in CA, it was a 89(?) cabriolet with the go-kart suspension- it was fun around town but definitely not a nice ride on the freeway.. It was worn out/trashed afaik...
