I always drive around with my camera bag with me. Now my back tells me it's pretty heavy after a day of carrying it on my back (camera backpack) BUT i've never weighed it.

Well when I put it in the front seat of the 100 the seat belt reminder for the passenger goes off!!!

What's the weight limit for that sensor? I would guess it's normal but I would hate for the airbag to go off in an accident just because my camera bag is in the front seat. I guess it would be safest to not have it up there though just in case of an accident and it go flying all over the front dash area. :whoops:

I would guess the seat sensor and the airbags electronics to be independent of each other--if you were in an accident that would set off any of the airbags, they would deploy whether or not there was somebody in that front seat.

But, yes, it would be smarter to put somethng that heavy, on the floor, in the second row. In a side impact or rollover, that camera could hurt you.

What `Ya got in the bag Imola ? ;p

Most of the time I seat-belt my Camera backpack securely into place on the pass front seat using the belt`s built-in ELR feature, mainly because I like it (camera) being close at hand for a shot. :D

I thought that's what that sensor was for. So that it doesn't deploy the air bag if there is no weight on the seat.

SIN,

Oh boy there is all kinds of stuff in my bag. Nikon D200 plus lenses, a couple classic MF camera's, all my filters and film. Plus I usually have my tripod strapped to the bag too.

THEN there is the LF camera in a case in the very back.

I'm loaded up at all times :)

Sounds like you`ve got capturing an award winning image covered !

Yeah, I think my backpack with JUST photo goodies weighs in around 45-50 lbs on many outings.... No wonder my back hurts all the time ! :frown:

lets see some of your fav pics !

Not some of my all time fav's but some that I can share that aren't copywritten or owned by somebody else now.

I believe that in most newer cars the airbag will not go off if there is no one in that seat, or deploy only partially for a small passenger, not sure about the 100 series...

Nice shots Red !

I especially like the portrait , awesome detail/bokeh ...and those eyes !

Is that a B/W conversion ? film or digital ? What type of imaging programs do you use ? (Uh oh.. all this pic talk is gonna get your thread bumped out of 100 tech) ;)

Uh...thats a nice "100" in the woods ( there, I think we are safe now ! )

Come to think of it, I do remember hearing about advanced airbag technology... I need to read up on it. When they added the curtain airbags in the 100, it must have been a entirely new airbag system altogether.

Thanks for the "tech" info Red ! :)

I know in the new Tacomas the passenger front airbag isn't activated unless there is something like 64 lbs in the passenger seat. There are sensors and there is a light on the dash to tell you whether or not it has been activated.
