Hi mudders, i want to share my cabin project, something that i dreamed for years became reality and am really gratefull for it.

I had 4 walls made of brick with no roof to start with, so i decided to sell the 40 in order to pay for the construction.

Here´s some pictures of the process, hope you guys enjoy...

Nice, but you sold your 40? should have robbed a train instead LOL.
Very Nice job. It that a stained concrete counter top?

Hi Firestopper, that counter top was made from a pine tree we had to cut down for the construction, looks good don´t it?

yeah, the train robbery was an option but the thing is there was no train to rob, the train stopped working here about 40 years ago :grinpimp:.

I sold the 1f 1970 fj40 and kept the 1978 40.

Dang. Cabin in the woods, an 80 and a 40..... What more could you ask for?? Looking great!

nice work, should have done fixed glass all the way across the top of the wall and got rid of the knee brace on the rake ends.

That's a beautiful cabin. Literally built like a brick s**thouse.

Where did you live while you built it?

Very nice. Where is the cabin located? That you can get by with no insulation. I like the hollow bricks. They would be great filled with foam.

Hey guys,

Small update photos
Ill post a video link later i think ill get some more work done tonight or tomorrow as well.

Didnt get as far as I hoped ( i never do )
But I did get the main power ran from the pole to the cabin, but havent made it hot yet. This was very difficult because I decided to use conduit that was donated, and I knew it wasnt the best size for my 1/0 copper wires (1 1/4 ) but I use it anyway and cornering the wire was very hard. I did it though without damaging any wire sleeve or insulation barriers.

I also cut and intstalled the ridgevent, I have to get my hole saw and cut the eves but will hopefully do that in the next few days.

Next I framed and set in place my through the wall ac/heater sleeve, and started my insulation (half done)

Porchlight in place

Hi fellow Mudders, it has been two months living in the cabin. there is still a lot to do, the money has been tight, the forty is in the shop for various repairs in order to make it my daily driver. The wife is starting to take driving lessons so the 80 series can be her daily driver.

the cabin is located in El Retiro, Antioquia. that is Colombia South America.

Moving from a 300 sqft apartment to a 90 sqft cabin with my wife and our three year old daughter wasn´t easy, we had to get rid of quite a few things in order to fit the furniture and everything else. But it was worth it. Living in mountains was something i wanted to do for a long time since i lived in Florida.

So, to make this thread related back to its title, the cabin needs more improvement, i plan on building 2 adittional bedrooms and a full bathroom.
My chalenge now is where should i build the bedrooms, and how, I thought about three options so far:
1. Build a 2 story building behind the cabin, having 2 garages underneath and above that the living space, ill share a couple of sketches later.

2. Ad a second floor to the front porch, that would include taking the roof appart on the front an enlarging the porch at least 7" more. (this option gives the best view)

3. Build and additional module independent from the cabin and connect with a transitional space.

I appeciate your imput.
