Hi,

we have a BJ42 and i gave me some headache...

The clutch get dead in a middle of a trail...I get out of the trail with my FJ Cruiser. I said to my wife who driving the truck, to have a tension in the sling, what ever she got to do for having the tension in 30' sling. She get is feet on the break pedal none stop....

When we get to the street and we stop 18 miles foward. When we stop....the break was so hot, there was smoke...a lot of smoke.

I go for a estimation and it there that a knew it was my clutch is dead and all the break have to be change.

2 things...

i'm in Québec, wher can i get some godd part for it at a good price!

or

Do you thing that someone want to buy(or trade) this BJ42.
It was a expensive vehicule to buy, but in reality we know taht we will lost some money. But we have to do the better way, we can.

Thanks for your comment!

I will take tomorow some time to anwser you correctly

There's always a market for diesel trucks. In the states, a clutch and labor would run around 500.00. Brakes are cheap and relatively easily installed. Post pics and a price if you want to sell....but I don't know if i would!

It because we have two truck, the FJ Cruiser and the BJ42, i love but of them, but one is to small to be a good expidition truck for our familly(2 adult, 3 kid and a dog with all the stock that a familly need) and the FJ Cruiser become to be too fragile for having 35" of tire.

The confort from the FJ Cruiser and the solidity of the BJ42 will be a good match.

We have good paye but two truck if they broke, it's too expensive for us to keep then in a good order.

Can a LC 80 cound be a good solution?

Pesonally I'd keep the BJ, the body looks to be in good shape in the picture above but if you do sell it I think an 80 would be a good way to go especially with 3 kids. As mentioned above there is always a market for diesel trucks in the U.S. if it is an 81 or older it is super easy to import. You may be able to find someone who will trade the BJ for an 80. If you do fix the BJ I think 500 is a little low as far as replacing clutch unless you do it yourself. i had to have mine done (didn't have the time equiptment or the skills) and it was over 1K. Just my .02

clutch

A clutch is not bad to do

heres a link to when I did mine just recently

https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/245021-pics-oem-p-ns-rear-main-clutch-change.html

heres what the OEM parts cost
Rear main seal, $39.91
Release bearing, $57.74
Disc, $43.51 exchange (6.00 core value)
pilot bearing, $5.72
PM CruiserDan for the parts

if you talk with some mechanics sometimes they will do a job in their own time at about half the shop rate or for a fixed price--just dont let the boss overhear they frown on that! Dont hurt to ask, a lot of times its the younger guys looking to earn some extra money

Brakes are reasonable at a shop but easy enough to do yourself also

Hope that helps

You could sell that BJ at a good price as is if that is what you really wanted to do--I wish I had one but couldnt find a reasonably priced one and bought an FJ instead

Good luck with it

If you need parts try:

4Wheel Auto Wholesale

With 3 kids and a dog, an 80 series might be a better match (or a 60/62).

I'm sure you will not have any problems selling the BJ. Personally, I would keep it. But then, I've got a yard full already.

Thanks for the info, i know that we have a legend in our hand, but i think someone here will take it more carefuly than us and will enjoy it better than us. If a was a mecanical, it will help, but i'm not but my friend is a good mechanicel(for jeep) and i will help.

You are a great community!!!! Thanks!
